Generation No. 1

1. ADAM1 LUGAR was born March 01, 1737/38 in Frankfort, Germany, and died 1837 in Giles County, Virginia. He married ANNA MARGARET CLAPP 1777 in Orange County, North Carolina.

Notes for ADAM LUGAR:
Adam was born in Frankfort Germany, and came to America in the Hessian Army, arriving in the British held city of New York. After four weeks, he deserted the Hessian army and joined the Continental Army. He marched to South Carolina where he spent the winter.
[Fought in the revolutionary war in the Continental Army in North Carolina. First enlisted in Pennsylvania. Margaret, his wife, received a widows pension for his service, under pension spouse...W8066]
He was discharged sometime after 17 months of service, and he moved to what is now Giles County, Virginia, sometime between 1777-79. He and his wife settled on Sinking Creek, the south side of John's Creek Mountain and Salt Pond Mountain.
He was granted a ten mile stretch of Sinking Creek Valley by General George Washington for his service in the Army. The road leading from Rte 42 at Level Green to the north side is called Lugar Hill. Here he lived in a log cabin.
Adam enjoyed music and since he owned plenty of land, it has been said that he once traded many acres known as "Turkey Roost" for a fiddle.
