Formation and History

Formed from the western portion of Hardy County, Grant County was created in 1866.  County seat is Petersburg 26847.  The county's borders haven't changed since its formation. 

Records begin on the following dates: birth marriage, death, divorce, land, probate, court 1866 and naturalization, 1906. 

Prior to 1866, the courthouse records would be found in Hardy County.  Hardy County was formed in 1786 from the southern portion of Hampshire County.  The county seat is Moorefield (26836).
