Carpenter Fork School

This is the school house where Ellis Flavy Rose attended until 6th grade, he then went to work the day he was 16 and quit school. The school was burned by Okey Baldwin when he piled up papers and books in front of teachers desk and poured 5 gal can of gasoline on them. He burned to death in the fire. This happened right after Flavy went to work. It was about the time of the Murder of the Harris couple because Flavy went to that house to see where the murder had taken place and as he returned home, they saw the flames, but school house had already burned too much to save anything. It was on the location of the empty lot down below Flavys present house, in sight of his & his wife, Goldie's, house. It is called the "School House Lot". Another school was built there after the fire, but was not there very long. Okey Baldwin was trying to court Blanche Jackson, d/o Homer Jackson, so Flavy says. He came in the area from somewhere else. Not from around there, they said. The picture has Ms. Sadie Simpson on the back from NC....and was sent to Flavy Rose. So, it was like a big post card only the picture was on hard, stiff paper.
