Honaker Family Information

More than 14,000 Americans, among them many Virginians and West Virginians, are known to be descended from a 1749 Swiss immigrant, Hans Jacob Honaker. For information, publications list, or research assistance on the Honaker/Honiker/Honegger (and other variant spellings) family line, please write to the address provided above. BCGS member, Ralph Honaker is president of this association.(from April 1996 BCGS Quarterly)

Seventh West Virginia Cavalry

This is a compilation of all the soldiers listed on the muster and enlistment rolls of the 7th West Virginia Cavalry formerly 8th Virginia Mounted Infantry (Union). Most entries are supplemented with information found in pension records in the National Archives. (from the Jan 1996 BCGS Quarterly)

The Abbotts of West Virginia

The direct lineage of Joseph Abbott, born about 1766 in Virginia, is traced through his son John for eight generations which are numbered for instant recognition. Soft cover, 8 1/2 X 11 inches. 95 pages.

Annals of Southwest Virginia 1769-1800

Massive, encyclopedic, exhaustive -- these are three generally over-used adjectives, yet each perfectly describes this compilation of genealogical source records of Southwest Virginia, and we have no hesitation in using them to characterize Mr. Summers' genealogical masterpiece. Covering the territory west of the Blue Ridge Mountains, including areas now in Kentucky and West Virginia, the work focuses primarily on the Virginia counties of Botetourt, Fincastle, Montgomery, Washington, and Wythe, including the present-day West Virginia counties of Boone, Cabell, Fayette, Greenbrier, Kanawha, Lincoln, Logan, McDowell, Mason, Mercer, Mingo, Monroe, Putnam, Raleigh, Summers, Wayne, and Wyoming.

Documents featured in the Annals include minutes of the county courts, marriiage licenses, abstracts of deeds and wills, surveys of lands, and lists of soldiers. For Botetourt County there are minutes of the county court, 1769-1800, early surveys, marrieages, 1769-1800, deeds, 1769-1785, and wills, 1700-1773. For Fincastle there are minutes, early surveys, marriage licenses, deeds, and wills, 1773-1777. For Montgomery there are minutes, early surveys, deeds, and wills, 1777-1800. For Washington there are minutes, 1770-1784, surveys, marriage licenses, 1785-1800, deeds, 1778-1799, and wills, 1777-1800. And for Wythe County there are minutes and marriage linceses, 1790-1800.

In addistion to the above list of genealogical records, there is an exhaustive list of Revolutionary War soldiers from Southwest Virginia, compiles from the most reliable sources. Numerous illustrations and three large fold-out maps add to the book's considerable authority. The unussual length of the work -- 1757 pages plus numerous unnumbered illustrations and maps -- has compelled us to reprint the work in two parts rather than in a single, ungainly volume.

One volumn bound in two. 1,757 pp., illus., maps, indexed, cloth. (1929), reissued 1996.
ISBN 0-8063-0451-0.
