Cemetery List- Berkeley County GenWeb
Berkeley County West Virginia
Cemetery List
Below is a list of some of the cemeteries, past and present, located in Berkeley County, West Virginia.
Some transcriptions and directions have been contributed by the individuals listed in the USGenWeb archives. If you have transcribed a cemetery
and would like to have it included here, please e-mail me.
The majority of these cemeteries listed were found using the United States Geogological Surgery (USGS) pages; the area listed
on the GNIS pages are the areas in which the USGS says is a census map, but it does not mean it is actually IN that community. Rather it is in the
U.S. Census Bureau's map of that name. It usually means it is somewhat close to that community, but doesn't tell us how close. All attempts have
been made to make sure these locations are correct — longitude and latitude coordinates have been compared with graves listed on Find-A-Grave.com.
As with other pages on this site, this is a work in progress. As new information becomes available, it will be added.
Sources used here include United States Geological Survey (USGS), Department of the Interior; Find-A-Grave.com, where many partial transctipts,
as well as some obituaries and photos were located; epodunk.com; HomeTownLocator.com; www.interment.net; wikipedia.org; and
individual researchers. When a cemetery has only one source, that source is listed at the end of the description. If multiple sources onfirmed the cemetery
information, those sources are not listed indivually. Keep in mind some of these listings could be duplicates; for example, a listing from the USGS may
be the same cemetery as that listed on Find-A-Grave, but which I can't confirm is the same cemetery.
Please be sure and *zoom* in or out on the maps to learn more about where a cemetery is in relation to other locations in Berkeley County. Also, unless
stated as complete transcriptions, the graves transcribed may only be partial. Use your 'Back' button on your browser to return to this page from
any external links.
Note: this is a work in progress; please check back as changes are made frequently.

- Tomahawk Cemetery,
Tomahawk Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 2004, Hedgesville, West Virginia 25427. A second transcription by
Garry Bock. Directions from Hedgesville, West Virginia: Go west on Route 9 about 1.8 miles. Turn left on Back
Creek Valley Road. Go about 2 miles and turn left on Presbyterian Church Road. Look for the stone church and
cemetery on the hilltop. "The cemetery is owned today jointly between the Tomahawk Presbyterian and Tomahawk
Christian Churches. It is in good condition and still accepting burials. The cemetery has headstones dating
back to 1806. There are many graves marked with just field stones, they may be older since there was a
church called. "Mr. Vance's meeting house" on this location in 1770. The meeting house is believed to have
been built around 1750. I have transcribed this listing after visiting this cemetery, comparing those
readings with previous readings and Berkeley County Death Records. It is complete up to Dec 31, 2002" —
Garry Bock
