SOLLARS: I wish to exchange information with anyone remotely interested
in this name. Thomas Sollars (1782VA-aft.1870) was a rock mason. He had
a tavern in Hardy Co., VA (WV) in 1805 which he built himself and I
understand it is still in part standing to this day. It was on an old
stage road. He served in the War of 1812, raised a large family, one son
being William Rutledge Sollars. Thomas, it is believed lived out his life
in Mineral Co., WV. As I understand he was in the 1870 Census living in
the home of his son, Andrew Sollars in Mineral Co.
Thomas' father was William Sollars, who I believe moved to Ross Co., Ohio
in 1799/1800.

WILLIAM SOLLARS
When the Revolutionary War began, placing us on the road to independence,
William was a lad of 16 years. The following year, September 5, 1777, he
enlisted in Captain David Arell's Company, 3rd Virginia Regiment,
commanded by Colonel Thomas Marshall, of the Virginia Contenental Line.
William's enlistment papers record the Sollars surname as Swallers,
beginning what would prove to be one of numerous mis-spellings during his
service indicating William was not literate.
He served in the Rev. War from 1777 through 1779. He wintered at Valley
Forge, and saw battle in New Jersey and New York.
William Sollars/Sollers is found in the Tax Rolls of Berkeley Co., VA
(WV).
TAX ROLLS:
WILLIAM SOLLERS - 1782 Tax Payer Records, Berkeley County, Virginia (now
WV): 1 poll, 0 slaves.
WILLIAM SOLLERS - 1783 Tax Payer Records, Berkeley County, Virginia (now
WV). 1 horse, 2 cattle, no land.
WILLIAM SOLLARS - 1786 Tax Payer Records, Berkeley County, Virginia (now
WV). 1 WH. 2 horses.
WILLIAM SALLARS - 1787 Tax Rolls, Berkeley Co., VA (charged with
tax:Robert Rutherford)
NOTE: William visited on 04/28, Robert (below) visited on 04/28. William
was two doors away from Robert. Was William a share croper or an overseer
for Robert, below?
ROBERT RUTHERFORD - 1787, Berkeley Co., VA Tax Rolls: self charged. 1-11-
5-29-28 [legend: White males above 16 yrs and under 21 yrs (1).; black
above 16 yrs (11); blacks under 16 yrs (5)); Horses, mares, colts &
mules (29); cattle (28).]
William Sollars is in the 1820 Census of Harford Co., MD (page 065). This
is adjacent to Berkeley Co., VA (WV). This is most likely our subject,
suggesting that he was something of a nomad, moving from place to place.
This would explain why he fails to appear in many of the census rolls in
Ohio, where he died in 1833 .
I would appreciate hearing from anyone who can help further my knowledge
of this man.

Subject: Weigle/Myers.
My great-grandparents were born in Berkely Co, and Hampshire Co, WV, but
when they left for KS, the later generations lost track of family. By
1906 my family was in CA. My 2ndgreat-grandfather was John W. Weigle, b.
1805, Berkely Co. His wife was Nancy Myers. They had 7 children, incl my
gr-grandfather John Michael, b. 1846 Slanesville, Hampshire Co. My
great-grandmother was a Saville, and I have found that family thoroughly
covered in a book by Frank L. Saville. The Weigle name was probably
spelled Wigle - 1830 census shows Eve Wigle in the right county
(Berkley) with a son the right age to be John W.. The known family
members were buried in Tomahawk Cemetery. I have little else on Weigle's
history. Contact me if you know of a source.

Berkeley County Query
I am looking for ancestors of my mother Anna Belle Butler, who
was born on March 12, 1921. Her father was George Albert Butler
1883-1950. Her mother Ida V. Linton 1887-1935. Her Grandfather
was James A. Butler 1857-1925, her grandmother, Emma Susan Kilmer,
1868-1949. I am especially interested in the Butler lineage
prior to James A. Butler.
Additional info:
Anna Belle Butler was born in Martinsburg WVA. To the best of my
knowledge, her parents George and Ida owned a dairy farm in the County.
Her grandparents at the very least lived in Berkeley County and may have
been born there, but I cannot substantiate that. I do know that
Butler's Chapel at Arden was named after my mother's grandfather James
Butler.
I hope this helps. I have just sketchy information.

I am interested in information about Benjamin Satterfield and Benjamin

Fredrick Co. Virginia, John b. 1762 Fredrick Co. Virginia, and James b.

in Berkeley Co. Virginia married Sarah Matheny. The Duaghter of Daniel
Matheny of Berkeley Co. Virginia. And that they moved with his brother
James to Adams Co. Ohio(1805) and then Pike Co. Ohio(1829). Likewise, a
Marget born in 1755 married Abraham Grooms of Gun Powder Fall MD and also
moved to the Adams Co./Pike Co./Highland Co. Ohio area about the same
time. (around 1800). Also there was a Benjamin who also moved to Adams
Co. Ohio at the same time (1805). It was told to me that both of the
Benjamin's fought in the French-Indian war from Berkeley Co. Virginia. in
1755-1756. However I don't know where the information that proves the
family connections comes from and the person who gave me the family
information obtained it second hand. Therefore, I am interested in any

Subject: ROHR, ROHRER, RHORER, and ROWER.
I'm looking for information about Christian ROHR (or possibly ROHRER)
of Berkeley county, his daughter (or possibly granddaughter) Mary
Ann ROHR, who married (probably in Berkeley County) someone whose
last name was HUNTER. They had at least one son, Lewis HUNTER, who
apparently moved with his mother and (great)grandfather to KY in the
1830s.
The ROHR(ER)s seem to have come across the Potomac from Frederick County
Maryland. Christian ROHR(ER) was born there about 1763 and died of very old age
in Kentucky in 1857. His name was variously spelled ROHR, ROHRER, RHORER, and
ROWER.
I'm particularly interested in learning more about the mysterious Mr. HUNTER
who was Mary Ann Rohr's husband and also my great-great-great grandfather.
