Supported by Cardiganshire, Dyfed, Glamorgan, Gwynedd and Powys Family History Societies; member of the Association of Family History Societies of Wales.
The London Branch of the Welsh Family History Societies was formed to encourage and support those in and around London wishing to research their Welsh roots. We meet four times a year in central London and anyone with an interest in Welsh family history is very welcome to attend.
We have a wide range of interesting speakers, covering topics such as Welsh history and family history sources and techniques. Activities also include walks to places of Welsh interest in London and a week-long visit to the National Library at Aberystwyth each year.
One of our objectives is to index material located in London which is of special interest to Welsh family historians.
Past projects include An Index of Welsh soldiers in the East India Company Army and An Index of Welsh debtors in the Court for the Relief of Insolvent Debtors (1804-1862).
We have produced 2 CDs for sale. The first is an Index of names included in the Welsh returns which form part of the Voluntary Contributions to the Rebuilding of St Paul's Cathedral (c. 1678), more details here
The second CD is an index to baptisms at Jewin Welsh Chapel. This is the first release from a project to locate the records of nearly 50 Welsh chapels and churches which once existed in London, and to transcribe those which are likely to be of interest to family historians. More details here .
Further details about the branch can be obtained from the Secretary, Anne Jones:
