GWENT FHS JOURNALS (paperbacks) |
 |
The Society's Journal was published three times a year up until 1996 and from 1997 onwards it has been published each quarter, in March, June, September & December. It contains appropriate articles and information, and it may be used to express opinions, to ask for assistance and to publicise members' own lines of research. In this way, many members have made contact with others researching the same name and even the same family, through the pages of our Journal. It is distributed free to members: if you choose to be attached to one of our Branches, your copy will be handed to you at branch meetings, otherwise it will be posted.
Non-members are welcome to buy copies of the current issue of the Journal at a cost of £3.00.
Back-numbers of any previous issues which are still available may also be purchased by members and
non-members. |

MARRIAGE INDEX 1813-1837 |
 |
|
The Society has created a Marriage Index for
the years 1813 to 1837 for most of the parishes of the old county of
Monmouthshire. It is held alphabetically in two parts, by groom and by bride.
A Marriage Index Enquiry Service is available to both members and non-members
(as detailed under the services we offer),
and many members have already traced ancestors through this service,
even whilst the Index was still being compiled.
Now that the work has been completed, copies of the two
parts of the Index can be purchased on microfiche. Each of the two parts,
containing the index by groom or the index by bride, comprises 7 fiche,
and therefore the individual parts can be ordered at a cost of £7
(please specify which part you require)
or both parts can be ordered at a total cost of £14 (plus the
appropriate postage and packing as shown on the main Publications page). The complete Marriage
index is available on CD-ROM, price £10.00 plus postage and packing:
- UK: 75p
- EEC £1.50
- Overseas £2.00

MONUMENTAL INSCRIPTIONS (microfiche) |
 |
We have researched all known churchyards and chapel graveyards (not Local Authority cemeteries) within the old county of Monmouthshire, as well as a few which are situated just over the county border, although some have only been recorded up to the early 1900s. Details of the plots and of the monumental inscriptions have been transcribed and indexed, and copies of these are available on microfiche
In addition, we offer an M.I. enquiry service, using a computer index compiled by amalgamating all the indexes from the files of the graveyards which have been recorded. However, please remember that, as mentioned above, these exclude all public cemeteries and, in the case of some of the graveyards, also exclude details later than the nineteenth century. The index contains names and references, but NOT the actual inscriptions. Details of this enquiry service are included under the services we offer.
The page showing the List of Fiche in Alpha Order, identifying the Churches or Chapels that are covered, should make it easier for you to find the one(s) in which you may be interested. You will see that the records for some of the larger ones have had to be split between two or more fiche.
Conversely, to avoid selling fiche containing only a small number of frames of information, a number
of fiche each contain the records for more than one yard. Once you have found a yard in which you may
be interested, you can see whether the fiche concerned contains records for any other yard(s) by looking
at the separate List of Fiche in Numeric Order. When ordering fiche, you
must always quote the Fiche Number(s) shown. |

MONUMENTAL INSCRIPTIONS COMMON SURNAMES (microfiche) |
