Death Index - Pre 1907
M. Hawkins transcribed these records for our use.
This is an indexing of the Wood County portion of the state of Wisconsin microfiche
Deaths. There are approximately 2,351 recorded death records for Wood county.
Wisconsin was one of few states to have a wide-spread index of
records prior to establishment of a state vital records office. However, there may
be some records at the county level not included in this statewide index, so be
sure to check the county records (located at the county courthouse) as well.
These records are taken from the index created by the Wisconsin Department of Health
and Family Services, Vital Records Division and document early Wisconsin settlers.
Keep in mind that the records are only as accurate as as the individuals reporting
the information and record keepers who recorded it. If it wasn't reported, it
was not recorded.
Once you locate a record, copy down the Surname, given name, birth date, county of birth, Reel number, and Record Number
(the reel number and record number identifies the location of the record on the microfishe). Use that information to obtain copies of originals from the state of Wisconsin:

Another source of information is The Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah, which also has
copies of birth, marriage, and death records for many Wisconsin counties. Contact your nearest local
family history center for further information.
