Seek info for the family of Peter WEBER (b 21 AUG 1807) and Augusta KNOPF/KNOB/KNABE (b 2 JUN 1812). They were married in Prussia about 1837 and emigrated about 1861, settling in or near Ripon (Fond du Lac), WI until about 1872. Their children were: (1) Henriette (b 16 MAR 1839) m. William/Wilhelm J. BUELOW/BULOW ca 1861; (2) Henry August Christoph (b 6 AUG 1841) m. Amelia Johanne Sophie VOIGT 17 DEC 1869 in Ripon; (3) Augusta Caroline (b 27 FEB 1844) m. William SCHULTZ ca 1867; (4) Charles/Carl (b ca 1846) m. Lena ??? ca 1866; (5) William Peter (b. 3 JAN 1848); (6) Fredrick (b. 27 APR 1850). Seek the marriages of #1,3 and 4 near Ripon. The marriage record of #2 states that he was born in Zuchen, a town in the Koslin region of Pomerania. The actual Zuchen records in Salt Lake show none of these children, so I would be glad of some help figuring out what to do next. The whole family moved to Decoria TWP (Blue Earth), MN about 1872 where #5 and #6 were married.

KIMBALL, and Willard KIMBALL, who died as a youngster. Amy Giddings KIMBALL and Willard are buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Menasha/Kenosha. Lord . I am looking for information on my great-grandparents, Hiram and Arminda Lord. Arminda died 12 May 1890 and is buried in riverside cemetery. Can you check for a death record or obituary? Hiram was living in Oshkosh in 1885, but I am wondering if you could check an 1895 Winnebago County census to see if he was still living then. The cemetery has no record of his burial, so I have no idea when he died, and I am trying to narrow it down a bit. Really apreciate any help you can give me. Thanks.

JONES-CLARKE-POLAR. Reseraching family of Charles JONES. Arrived in America 1842 from England with his wife Jane and their children; James, Susan, Edward, Abram, and Joseph. A daughter Ann may have arrived later; Charles's second marriage was to Gertrude; a son John was born to them in Racine County in 1848. The JONES and CLARKE families moved to Winchester, Winnebago, WI; date uncertain as they were not counted in 1850 census. 1889 atlas of Winnebago says "First settlement in Winchester was 1847-48...followed in spring...James H. JONES".

I am researching the followingsurnames from Winnebago County. BLOEDOW,BRENNAND, COWLING, KULIBERT, RAETHER, RUECHEL, WILKE... My Great-Uncle "Sam" Frank RUECHEL was a founding member and longtime Commander of the VFW in Oshkosh. I am especially trying to get his service records because my Grandfather William KELLY was in the same unit of the RAINBOW DIVISION. We have a classic photo of their unit. Without dates of service the government will not release their records to me. Would be glad to share info with other researchers of these surnames.

My maternal great-grandfather was Martin Walter, who was related to other Walters who were beer brewers in Appleton, Menasha and Eau Claire.  Martin came to the U.S. from Germany, landing in NY on July 18, 1880.  He held about three jobs before he went to work in 1883 for brother George Walter in Appleton.  He worked there until 1888.  In 1883 he married Christina A Britten, daughter of Matthew Britten who was described as a farmer near Appleton in an 1895 publication--Commemorative Biographical Record of Fox River Valley Counties of Brown, Outagamie and Winnebago.  Christine was a Catholic, but Martin was not.  I do not know the date or location of their wedding in 1883.  The family moved to Neenah in 1888 when Martin and his brother Christian opened a Menasha brewery.  My grandmother, Amelia, was the third chld and was born Feb. 2, 1889 in Neenah.  The fourth child was Elizabeth and the two of them were babtized at St Patrick's Catholic Church in Menasha.  Christine died Dec. 12, 1895 in Winnebago County per pre-1907 record index.  I believe that the family lived in that area until 1895.Can you think of anyone who might have more information. Thank you.

Philipp and Kunigunde KRATZ emmigrated from Hessen-Darmstadt in 1856 bringing with them three children: Konrad KRATZ b. 1848, Friedrich KRATZ b. 1851, Heinrich KRATZ b. 1855. They had five more children after they came to Wisconsin: Caroline KRATZ, Emma KRATZ, Julius KRATZ, Bertha KRATZ, and Charlie KRATZ. All the children settled with the parents in Kewaunee County with the possible exception of Konrad. No information has been discovered for Konrad after emmigration. Recently it has been discovered that the family first settled in Neenah Menasha before moving on to Kewaunee County. The youngest children were born there. It may be possible that Konrad reached adulthood and settled in Neenah Menasha. Anyone reading this who knows of a KRATZ in Neenah Menasha area who may be a descendant of Konrad, please contact me at

CRAYTON, BELL, GASS, MUTTART Time Period: 1855 to Present
Searching for information concerning Henrietta CRAYTON and Peter BELL who were married January 1, 1875, at Neenah, Winnebago Co. Name of person performing marriage was W. J. Olmsted. (This is from a copy of a marriage license and it was handwritten) Name of father of husband is John BELL, mother of husband is Mary BELL (this is why I have a difficult time in my research because husband's mother's name is not shown with maiden name). Previous to my getting this copy, no one else was able to give me any information concerning parents of Peter BELL. Name of wife's father is listed on the marriage license as A. Crayton (I have no idea of his first name or anything about him). Wife's mother's name is listed as Mary CRAYTON. I am also searching for information concerning the MUTTART families of the Neenah area. This would be in connection with Mary BELL, wife of John BELL, who was shown on the 1860 Winnebago County Federal census as having been born at Prince Edward Island. Also looking for information concerning the Lewis GASS family, about 1840's to mid-1900's. Willing to exchange information. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you.

ANKLAM, HOECHNER, STERNGAGEN surname. I'm researching Lewis (Ludwig) ANKLAM who lived in Winnebago County, Menasha and Neenah in particular. His birth was Jan 20, 1849 in Germany, lived in Menasha, and died in Neenah, Feb. 24, 1922. I understand that he came to this country when he was only 13 years old. I am wondering if he came over here to live with relatives in Menasha, since there seem to be several families there during that time with the same last name. I have information that his first wife was Minnie HOECHNER (could be spelled HACKNER), also of Menasha. Would love to know more about her ancestors. They had 3 children, one being William Frederick ANKLAM, 1872-1946 (my grandfather) and 2 daughters I believe. Perhaps one is Ida and the other Harriet? Minnie died in the 1870's some time and Lewis remarried Mary Olga STERNHAGEN (could be spelled STERNHOGEN), also of Menasha in 1878. They had 6 children during that marriage. Any information on the families of Lewis ANKLAM would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

HARRISON surname. Looking for details on the HARRISON's of Poy Sippi, WI. Their saga began when Samuel Aaron HARRISON and Elizabeth Ruth TACKABERRY left County Wexford, Ireland via New Ross, IRL on the ship GLENLYON, along with Elizabeth's two sisters [names unknown]. They landed in Montreal, Canada and it was in the province of Ontario that they began their North American experience. Samuel and Elizabeth were married at one of her married sister's farmhouses on the border of Ontario & Vermont. They then ran a general store in the area of Smith Falls, Ontario for a few years before migrating to Winnebago County, Wisconsin in the 1860's where Samuel first worked as a stonemason in Oshkosh before homesteading on a farm between Tustin and Poy Sippi, about a mile and a half from Lake Poygan. There they raised several children, one of whom was Cadwallader Joseph Edmund HARRISON, who later married Jennie Mae MCGREGOR of Tustin. They later farmed about a half mile down the road from the original HARRISON homestead, and there their firstborn child was my mother, Ruth Margaret HARRISON. Interested in any and all information relating to these HARRISON families, or the ancestors and descendents of Jennie Mae MCGREGOR.

A contact said that she saw a reference to this in an open air museum exhibit in Hessen, Germany and I also have distant cousins in Breidenbach who tell me that there was a Breidenbacher Grund. Perhaps it was not an official name, but an area where Germans lived who were from Breidenbach, Germany. The contact said it was described as being X miles north of Fond du Lac near Lake Winnebago. If you have any information I would be most appreciative.

I am following a hunch, My GGGrandfather was John J. Cameron. I believe that I have found his death cert. in Winnebago, WI. If it is his, then there are a few puzzles. He spent at least 25 years in Minnesota (various places). He was born in Canada, but I have yet to determine where. His last few years were spent in ill health based upon some news clippings that I have. I think that he was coming back to family in Winnebago before he died. Does anyone have any Cameron's in Winnebago in the late 1800's and early 1900's? I found a George Cameron and Heath Cameron there in the 1850's and 1860's. Any help is appreciated. Thank you,

Surnames = FELKER, FISCHER. The first one I amlooking for is on the FELKERs. I have information from an obituary that places a Walter David FELKER born December 27, 1886 in Kendall, Wisconsin living in Oshkosh, Wisconsin on September 19, 1925. The only information I have on him beyond his ancestry back to Germany (his parents were Andrew and Anna [RIEBER] FELKER of Kendall), is that he has a son Robert FELKER. I would really like to connect to a descendant of Walter FELKER so that I can fill in his descendants. I am able to share a LOT of information on ALL of Walter's siblings and many of their descendants if anyone is interested, but I do not have anything else to offer on Walter. The second surname I am researching is the FISCHER surname. I am told there are several FISCHER who still live in Oshkosh today who are descendants of Rudolph and Barbara (GAMS) FISCHER. What I know is that these are their children: Rudolph Joseph FISCHER, Jr. born September 15, 1910 in Oshkosh. Mary FISCHER, Joseph FISCHER, Frank FISCHER, Carrie FISCHER, Fronie FISCHER, Ann FISCHER, Clara FISCHER. Aside from their first child, I know nothing more about the children then what you see here. I am related through the descendants of the the first child. Any help or sharing of knowledge would be greatly appreciated! Thank you! I am trying to track down my paternal grandmother a Gwendolyn McALLISTER, who was apparently born in Neenah, WI in 1917. However, there is no birthrecord at the county. How would you recommend I proceed with my search? Is there a local county historical society? Someone with access to church records, perhaps. Please let me know. Thanks. My grandfather's sister, Golda("Goldie") DUNSTON, married Adolph REUTELER of Winnebago County in the 1920's. Apparently they moved to Duluth, then moved back and had a farm near Oshkosh. I am trying to find what happened to Goldie's children, Leo and Rosellie. I am not sure if they went by Goldie's first husband's name, MULLEN, or REUTELER.

This is a longshot effort to find out what became of a Peder Myre JOHANSEN who emigrated from Aunet, Sømna, Nordland, Norway in 1880. The family of his great great grand daughter in Norway would like to learn what became of him and if he had any family in the USA. Unfortunately, I don't have any clues on what name he took in the USA or where he was heading to. A possible match in the Trondheim Emigrant List is at:
http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/wc/webcens.exe?slag=n&filename=arkivverket/EMITROND&variabel=5&postnr=22325&fulle=true&spraak= The emigrant list shows a 21 year old Peder Johansen leaving for Menasha, Wisc in 1880. Peder is listed in the Søma bygdebok as shown below. If you would have any information on Peder Myre or suggestions on tracking him down, his Norwegian family would be very grateful. Family in the 1865 census is at: http://digitalarkivet.uib.no/cgi-win/wc/webcens.exe?slag=n&filename=arkivverket/ft1865/f61814&variabel=16&postnr=1664&fulle=true&spraak= Family in the 1875 census is at: http://draug.rhd.isv.uit.no/ftsoek/ftsoek.asp?kommando=bosted&ftaar=1875&spraak=norsk_bokmål&kommnr=1814&kretsnr=004&bostnr=0006&leilnr=00 The following information is from Sømna Slekt I-IV, (Vik i Helgeland, 1997), Tor Mathisen, Editor. Aunet bruk 1:19, page 241. Peder Myre f. 1859. Til Amerika 1880. der i 1908. Han hadde ei dtr. Emma Klaudine f. 1878 d. 1948 g. Ole Kristian Angell Olsen [fra Reinfjord store bruk 4]. I am looking for information about my grandfather, William Vernon SMITH. It is believed his birth name was William Vernon MORGAN or Vernon William MORGAN. He was an illegitimate child and was put into an orphanage when he was 7 years old, so our information is sketchy to say the least. He was born in Annadel, TN on 5/13/1913. His mother's name was Ada. I have a picture of my grandfather about the age of one, with his mother, and an "Aunt Winnie." I don't know if "Aunt Winnie" was his aunt or Ada's aunt. Ada appears to be in her late teen's, while the aunt appears to be much older. It is believed Ada was from Oshkosh, WI, and we believe that she was sent to TN to stay with family until my grandfather was born. My grandfather was later "adopted" by Courtland & Lora Smith & lived in Chattanooga, TN until Courtland was killed in an accident in about 1921. It was sometime after his death that my grandfather was placed into an orphanage in Oshkosh. The family has always believed that my grandfather grew up in a Catholic orphanage, but I recently received his SS# application, in which he stated he was raised in either the "Doris Baxler Home" or the"Davis Baxler Home" in Oshkosh. He lived there until about the age of 15/16, when he went to live with the family of Glen McSchooler (about 1930). I am looking for any information anyone might have, especially about this orphanage he grew up in.
