DEAD IN HIS SKIFF

Winnebago County Hunter Is Thus Discovered - It is Evidently a Case of Accident

Winneconne, Wis, May 29 -- Leo Fuhs, aged twenty-three years, unmarried and the son of Mr. and Mrs. August A. Fuhs of the town of Oshkosh, was found dead in a small hunting skiff yesterday on Daggett's creek, about 600 feet from its mouth. He had been shot through the heart and had been dead some hours, judging from the appearance of the body and the statement of phycisians. The body was lying flat on its back in the bottom of the skiff, which was drawn partially upon land, with one hand resting above its head and the other lying across the breast. The gun, a twenty-two short caliber rifle, was found lying on the ground just outside the skiff. The ball which passed through the young man's heart was found embedded just below the skin of the back.

All the circumstances appeared to indicate that the young man's death was caused by accident and after a full investigation by the authorities, it was decided that an inquest was unnecessary. No motive for suicide could be found to exist and there was no reason to suspect foul play. The body was taken to the home of the young man's parents.

It was discovered by Ambrose Clark, who lives on the old Overton Place. Mr. Clark had seen Mr. Fuhs at Butte des Morts about 4:30 o'clock Monday afternoon and so far as known was the last person to see him alive. Mr. Fuhs, it was learned, left his home Monday forenoon with his target rifle, planning to hunt for crows. In the afternoon he was at Butte des Morts and from there it presumed went to his skiff, where his body was found yesterday. When Mr. Clark learned that Mr. Fuhs had not been at home Monday night and that his parents felt anxiety because of this circumstance, he started out to search for the young man, his quest resulting in the finding of the boat and the young man's body. Mr. Fuhs was a deputy warden for the Fox River Hunting and Fishing, which having been admirably ..........?
