OBITUARY - 1 December 1904 - Death of Edwin Dyer. Two weeks ago we were called on to chronicle the death of Mrs. Jane Dyer of Rushford. This week, it is our sad office to note the death and burial of her husband, Mr. Edwin Dyer. Mr. Dyer, who was of German and Scotch-English ancestry, was born in Connecticut Dec. 29, 1822. In 1847 he came west as far as Wisconsin and three years later joined the tide of emigration to the gold fields of California. After three years stay in the far west he returned to his native state and in 1854 came back to Wisconsin and finally settled in this county. Here in 1857 he was married to Jane Lanning and soon after moved onto the farm which has been his home ever since. In his demise, Winnebago County has lost one of its early settlers and a man generally respected far and wide. For about five years he has had poor health, and at times while hardly expected to live, was called on to mourn the death of his wife. After an interval of a fortnight from her burial he died. He is survived by five children, Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Dearstine, and George, David and Ulysses. The funeral was held at the Rushford Methodist Church Saturday Dec. 3rd. Rev. H. G. Denison of Omro officiated.
