The congregation of St. Paul's church was formally organized on 24 May, 1888 under the help of Pastor H. Woltman. The members forming this congregation were Franz Ploetz, Sr., Chairman, Fred Danner and Fred Voss elders and Wm. Mueller secretary and treasurer and thirteen charter members as follows: Carl Holtz, Fred Danner, Fred Voss, Wm. Mueller, Franz Ploetz Sr., August Holtz, Friederich Glode, Wm. Holtz, Robert Molke, Ludwig Boettcher, Wm. Brown, G. Hein, and Julius Gutsche.
The first services were held in the upper floor of "Mueller Furniture Store", now a tavern. the place of worship was used until two years later St. Paul's congregation was moved to the present lot where they dedicated their new church in the fall of 1890.
