I am searching for information on two branches of my father's family. "Proctor's" are John, Joseph and WilliamWho came to Waushara Co about 1851. The Chapman family came about 1854. John and Susan John Proctor married Hannah Chapman Dakota Settled near Mt Morris1857. These are my great grandparents. Have John's "Oath of Loyalty" dated 1856. This family ,moved to Minnesota about 1865, after Hannah married a second time to Francis Evans of Berlin WI. William Proctor married Ellen Chapman (Hannah and Ellen were sisters) 1854. Settled Springlake. John was said to have died in a southern state in the Civil War, but no record of this is found. Could he have died there in Waushara County? Have copies of his brother Williams Civil War record and death in Virginia! Joseph was married to Jane Fairburn and they had a daughter born in Canada in 1852 ?, but lived in Mt Morris. There also was a sister Caroline Proctor who married Charles Lenton and they were in Springlake Marion Twp. They also moved to Minnesota. Would appreciate any information on these families. Especially John my g.grandfather. All I have is one census record in 1860,his Oath of Loyalty and his marriage record.

I am researching my family who lived for many years in Mt. Morris. I am looking for information on the JARVIS family. James JARVIS was born 9 Sept 1825 in Sogndal, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway, his name prior to Americanization is listed as Jens Hundere. I believe this is incorrect as I am able to locate all of the other men who immigrated when he did, but not him. Can anyone confirm his name? I know that his father was Sever and born in 1784, but until I confirm the last name I am stuck!

Susan Beebe of Plainfield, Wis., was named in the 1858 will of Jesse Clark of Lorraine, Jefferson Co., New York. I believe that Susan was Jesse Clark's daughter and the wife of William Beebe. William Beebe lived in Lorraine through 1850 census, but then I can't trace him. Jesse Clark was one of three Clark brothers at Lorraine. The father of these three brothers was Capt. John Clark of Broadalbin, NY, who served in the Revolution and whose family goes back to colonial Rhode Island. I would like to hear from anyone interested in any connection to Beebe or Clark in Waushara Co.

I am DESPERATELY seeking ANY information I can find about an ancestor of mine named Christina Ferguson. She is listed in the 1870 census as a resident of Plainfield, Waushara WI. Where could I look to find a maiden name? She died in 1870.

Her husband Nelson Ferguson.

-Had a daughter Alice Ferguson and sons Lester and Clinton with Lightbody/name unknown Native American wife.
-Had a son named Henry with mother unknown and it has been asumed that Henry died in childhood, but I am currently tying to verify if this is true (trying to locate his grave stone) and trying to discover whom his mother was.
-Married third wife Margaret J. (maiden name unknown currently, but she is known to have been from New York state, and is the source from which Lester's kids were told that their grandmother was Native American)(Margaret did get remarried after being widowed)

I'm new at some of this. I tried requesting a birth record for my grandfather William Henry Hom with no luck. According to my father's birth certificate, William was born in Waushara County. He was born in June of 1856 or 1857, the son of James Cline and Laura Wyman. My coworker tells me to send requests and maybe someone can help me find info. I do not know what church to even check for church records -- possibly Methodist. I know he later was married in 1878 in South Bend, Wisconsin, and I can't even tell where that is. William had four brothers and three sisters, and I do not know where they were born. Thank you for any help you can give me.

I thought I should share with you a new rootsweb list that provides linkages to those of us searching for ancestors in Waushara County and the 4 surrounding counties West of Lake Winnebago, namely Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Winnebago, and Marquette. Having grown up in this area myself, I've seen the area very much inter-linked through 150 years of pioneer homesteading, marriage, school attendance, employment, and everything else that makes up our family histories. So if you're interested in subscribing to a list that gives you "one stop shopping" in these 5 counties, just send an e-mail to [email protected] and include the single word subscribe in the body of the message. You will receive a confirmation that your subscription has been received and that message will also tell you how to post messages and everything else you need to know to exchange information with everyone else on the list interested in this 5-county area. Once you receive the confirmation of your free subscription, feel free to begin sending messages exchanging or requesting information from the rest of the list.

Whether you grew up in Poy Sippi or Berlin or Auroraville or Wautoma or Fond du Lac or Oshkosh or Ripon or Green Lake or Wautoma or Neshkoro or Montello, this list will reach them all.

We look forward to welcoming you to Wisconsin's Heartland in your ancestry search.

He came with his wife Mary (Polly), children Elizabeth b.1824 NY, Silas Lewis b. 1830 Independence, Allegany Co. NY., Sally, and Naboth B. Silas had been married to Sarah Jane Russell, and her parents Lee Russell and Mary Sturdevant came with them.
