Mr. and Mrs. Albert Caves Celebrate Golden Wedding
Friday August 17th dawned bright and clean and proved to be a "perfect day"
for Mr. and Mrs. Albert Caves to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary
at their pleasant home in South Hancock. Many lovely bouquets of flowers
were brought by friends, which decorated the farm home. The children,
grandchildren and other relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Caves
gathered here to make the day an enjoyable occasion, one that will remain a
pleasant memory with all who attended.
Nellie Ross was born on January 12, 1866 in Coloma and there grew to
womanhood. She taught school for some time before her marriage. There were
several of her pupils and school mates among those who came to help her
celebrate the anniversary.
Albert Caves was born on March 29, 1856 in the town of Richford. "Bert" and
"Nellie" were married August 17, 1884 by Reverend Delap, and began
housekeeping on the farm where they now live. They have spent most of their
married life on this farm, with the exception of a short time spent in
North Dakota and California.
To this union five children were born: Guy, who died at the age of nine
years, Harley, Bernice (now Mrs. James Buchanan), Ross, and Linda (now Mrs.
Lawrence Ostrum). There are nine grandchildren.
At the noon hour a long table was spread with white and gold decorations. A
large wedding cake decorated in gold, bearing the words "Nellie Ross,
Albert Caves, Golden Wedding, 1884 - 1934" formed the center piece.
Together with the bride and groom of fifty years, those who partook of a
bounteous dinner prepared by their children, were: Mr. and Mrs. Harley
Caves and three children, Mr. and Mrs. James Buchanan and daughter Maxine,
of Hancock; Mr. and Mrs. Ross Caves and three children, Mr. and Mrs.
Lawrence Ostrum and daughter Carol Jean, of Wild Rose; Vilas Follett, Mr.
and Mrs. D. Hollister, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Gray, Coloma; Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Myhill, Mr. and Mrs. Frank McLaughlin, Mr. and Mrs. H. Hirst, Mr. and Mrs.
Bert Hutchinson, Mrs. Eda Williams, Mrs. Nina Caves, and Mr. and Mrs. Carl
Cook, of Mondovi.
