County Woman, 100 Years Old, Dies on Friday
Mrs Mary Corning, 100, died Fri afternoon at the home of her daughter in Antigo. She had been ill the past 5 months. Previous to her illness she lived in Birnamwood.
Mrs Corning was born Jun 8, 1857 at Heart Prairie in Walworth County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Mary and Jonathon Lewis. At an early age she moved with her parents to Seymour, Wisconsin. On May 16, 1877 she was married to Charlie S Corning in Seymour and eleven years later they moved to Birnamwood. Mr Corning died Mar 26, 1926. She was a charter member of the Congregational Church in Birnamwood and also a charter member of their Ladies Aid.
Survivors are a daughter, Mrs Lela Van Vechten of Antigo, a son Chester of Birnamwood, 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Two sons and 2 daughters preceded her in death.
The funeral services will be held Mon afternoon at 2:00 pm from the Congregational Church in Birnamwood, with Rev Jacob Goretbema officiating. Burial will be in the Forrest Cemetery in the spring.
The body is at the Kopitzke Funeral Home in Birnamwood. Friends may call after 7:00 pm tonight until 11:00 o’clock on Monday, and then at the church from noon until time of the services at 8:00.
