Another Pioneer Gone. Mr. Henry Luecke, of the town of Hartland, died at his home in the village of Bonduel on Friday evening of last week, aged 67 years. A report was brought in Friday afternoon that his death took place that morning, but this proved untrue. Mr. Luecke was born in Oldenburg, Germany, sometime during the month of September, 1828, and landed with his wife and children in this country in the year 1855. He located at Two Rivers and remained there about 3 years, working in a mill, after which he moved to Shawano county and began to farm, first in the now city limits, but soon in the town of Hartland, which was then just beginning to attract settlers. He was one of the first settlers in the town and assisted in the opening up the road from the city to Green Bay. which was the first built through the town. In 1864 he was drafted into the army and served eight months in Co. "D" of the 6th Wisconsin, participating in 8 battles. On his return from the army he again applied himself to farming, and by industry and economy was the possessor of a fine farm, which is today one of the best in Hartland. He was a man universally respected in the community in which he lived and frequently was called upon to serve his townsmen in some official capacity, which positions he filled with credit to himself and the town; at the time of his death he was treasurer of the Hartland Farmer's Ins. Co. and also a member of the Soldier's Relief Commission. In 1883 he visited his old home in Germany and in 1885 took a trip to Tennessee. The accident which resulted in his death took place on Monday. the 14th, when he was thrown from a buggy while going from his home in the village to his farm a mile and a half distant. He received fatal injuries and never rallied from the effects of the shock. His remains were laid to rest in the German Methodist cemetery at Bonduel on Monday, the 28th inst., followed to the grave by an immense concourse of people, including members of the G.A.R. from this city. His death was the first in a family of 11 persons, an aged wife, 4 sons and 5 daughters survive him.
