David C Churchill came to Wisconsin bringing his wife (Harriett) and child (Leroy) in 1873. They located on a farm just east of Marion. The farm is now occupied by C. C. Rasey in Dupont township. David C. Churchill bought the land in that place from the Fox River Land Company, paying $1.25 per acre for it.

David C. Churchill was a son of David A and Martha (Buchanan) Churchill of New York state. David A Churchill was the son of Daniel and Marian (Clark) Churchill, who were also natives of New York State and of English descent. Daniel Churchill served with distinction as a captain in the War of 1812, and subsequently became a large land owner in Cayuga county, New York, where he died.

David A Churchill was a currier and shoemaker by trade and in 1845 moved from Cayuga County, New York to Tioga County, Pennsylvania. That  was his home until 1867, and in that year he joined his son, James B, in Grant township of Shawano County. He was in advanced years when he came to Wisconsin, and after that lived retired until his death in 1880. His wife died in 1887. She was a daughter of John and Miriam (Yeager) Buchanan, a native of Ireland, came to this country in time to serve in the Revolutionary War as a Captain on the American side. By occupation he was a farmer. He was of the same family that gave to the services of the Country, James A Buchanan, president of the United States. the children of David A Churchill and wife were; Wilbert, William, David, Daniel, James and Mrs. Ebenezer Burley. A remarkable part of the family record is that all of the above named sons and also the son-in-law Burley saw active service in the Union Army during the Civil War. Of these soldiers Daniel died while in the army in Maryland, but all the rest returned home after the war.

David C Churchill's services as a Union soldier were given with a New York regiment. After the war he married and located in Tioga County, Pennsylvania, and from there came to Wisconsin as already noted. On leaving the Rasey farm near Marion he followed the occupation of race horse driver in Ohio and Michigan, and then again settled in Waupaca County a little north of Marion. In 1885 he returned to Michigan, and spent three years in Oakland County. He finally bought a farm in Larabee Township of Waupaca County, and it is was his home until his death, and his his wife also died there. They were the parents of two children, the older Willard dying when about a year and a half old.
