The Bonduel Community Archives is an affiliated member of the Wisconsin Historical Society. The Bonduel Community Archives receives collections from the public; serves as a historical and genealogy research library; provides perpetual care of the collection to safeguard its condition and availability to the public; assists the public to record information of historical value; and helps interpret historical information.

Notable references at the archives: Many cemetery listings and church records from the area. Has many of the local newspapers of the Bonduel Times from 1909. (Note: the Bonduel Public Library has the Bonduel Times on microfilm.) Family history resources include: a collection of obituaries and wedding announcements from the present newspapers and copies of family scrapbooks submitted to the archives. News clippings are sorted and filed by family name. The archives is collecting photographs of the area's first settlers and their families.

Their web page can be accessed at this address www.nfls.lib.wi.us/sha/. From here you can enter Newcat which is their card catalog. They have access to quite a few libraries and if you can't find an item in their system we can order from outside the system.

• PAMPHLET FILES:  Includes articles from local newspaper arranged by topic; Personalities, awards, happenings in townships in Shawano county, churches, etc.
• OLD CHURCH DIRECTORIES: From the 1940's, etc. 
• PLAT BOOKS: Included in our pamphlet area, we have plat books for the following years: 1958, 1960, 1966, 1968, 1971, 1973, 1975, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1982, 1984, 1986, 1990, 1992, 1995. There were 2 with no date. One looks to be around the mid 50's the other maybe early 60's.
• SHAWANO CITY DIRECTORIES: For the following years: 1950, 1955, 1962, 1965, 1969, 1970, 1972, 1974-77, 1980-82, 1984-89, 1993, 1995, 2001 and 1 lonely one from Clintonville 1947.
• SCHOOL ANNUALS:  We also have annuals from the Shawano High School called the "Shawnee" for the years 1909, 1921-69, 1972-74, 1976, 1989-91, 1994, 1996.  Annuals from Gresham High School called the "Reporter" for the years 1956, 1957, 1959-62, 1967, 1968, 1973, 1974, 1984, 1988-94, 1996, 2001.  Annuals from the Menominee High School called "Warrior Memories" 1964-68.  A 1972 annual from Plattville University called "Coppertop".  Stevens Point University annual called "Iris" from 1968-70.   "The Badger" for 1921-24, the 1932 edition was Famous Badgers of Wisconsin, 1946, 1961-64.

We have a microfilm machine and the following things are available:

• U.S. CENSUS FOR SHAWANO COUNTY for the years 1840, 1870, 1880, 1890 (union veterans and widows of union veterans of Wis.), 1900, 1910, 1920.
• WIS. STATE CENSUS for 1855 (St. Croix- Winnebago), 1875 (St. Croix - Wood), 1855 (St. Croix-Walworth), 1895 (Racine- Trempealeau), 1905 (Sauk-Sheboygan)

The following newspapers are also available on microfilm.

• Shawano County Advocate Dec. 8,1881 - Aug. 16, 1934
• Volksbote Wochenblatt Nov. 12, 1897 - Jan. 3, 1935
• Shawano Evening Leader Aug. 22, 1934 - Dec. 1997 we will continue to get this newspaper on film as it is made.
• Shawano County Journal July 30, 1859 - 1898    Feb. 1, 1906 - Aug. 1951

The "Wisconsin Room" may be typical of any in Wisconsin libraries, at least the smaller ones.  There are books about the history of Wisconsin. The Wisconsin Blue book back to the late 1800's, Wisconsin census enumeration for 1895 part 3 and 1905 part 3. There are Centennials from Shawano and some books written by local historians as well.  There are quite a few family histories available as well as books to help you learn how to do your research. We can order microfilm as well.
