on these comments:
"I have checked Familiennamenbuch:
There seem to be two lines, both Graubuenden, one from Flerden, and the other one from Trin/Trins
(Trins being the German, Trin the Romanic name of the village). The Trin line also moved to Llanz
and Maladers during the 19th century, and to Chur in 1836 (i.e. they gained Chur citizenship
in 1836 - obviously they moved there somewhat earlier). It would therefore be quite possible that
Christian was born in 1788 in Sufers - after the family had left Trin - Julia, Maria, and Christian Rudolf were
born in Chur - just after gaining citizenship. I'll therefore enter two Swiss locations: Sufers in 1788,
and Chur for 1837-1847."

Excerpt of History of the GEYMANN family
By Corwin & Hazel Geymann (Written Feb. 1977)

Now let us go on to Henry Geymann. This directly concerned the William and Corwin Geyman farm. I will tell
you how Henry got his wife. It's a very interesting story.

A man by the name of Christ Caflisch lived in Switzer-land. He was a Lt.General in the army. A war was
raging in Europe. Napoleon assigned Lt. Caflisch to lead his army and one particular important battle was won
which saved a town. Napoleon then wanted to grant Mr. Caflisch a pension, but he refused and went back to
Switzerland. There he started a tourist home but failed. He and a daughter, who later became Corwin's
grandmother, decided to come to America to settle.
They went to Honey Creek, which is southwest of Baraboo, Wisconsin, to make their home. The trip to America
and from the coast to Wisconsin was much like George's trip to Wisconsin. Well, Henry decided he had to have
a partner to cook, sew, and mend for him, so just for an excuse he went to Honey Creek on a horse buying trip.
He stopped at Rev. Meyers' place and asked him if he had any horses to sell. Rev. Meyers, realizing that Henry
was looking for a housekeeper, said " I've got a beautiful 16 year old filly in the house." Rev. Meyers went into
the house and told Julia Caflisch, his hired girl, to take a drink out to the traveler. Well, it was love at first sight
and they were married Nov. 9th 1852. She was 16 and Henry was 35 years old.
They went back to the farm and settled down in a log house which had been built by George and his neighbors.
The log cabin was across the road west of the present house. Their first son, John, was born January 3rd 1854,
and died May 1st 1892. In due time Rosie was born. Then Barbara, Elizabeth, Annie, Wm., Henry Jr., Emma
and Frank arrived. Another daughter also named Rosie, died in infancy.

Henry Geymann - Julia Caflisch -- Married Nov. 9, 1852.
In about fifteen years the raising of hops flourished in this locality. The hops were planted in rows so they be
cultivated. In the spring of the year there was a pole set by each plant, and about three young shoots were
trained to run up the pole and the rest were cut away. First the flowers and then the hops were formed; At
harvest the hops were cut near the ground. Poles were pulled and carried to the boxes for picking. This took
all the available help they could find. After the days picking the hops were taken to a hop house for drying.
They were spread out on the second floor. A fire was kept burning in a stove on the first floor all night long so
the hops would dry. After they were dry they were bales. Each bale weighed about one hundred lbs., and put
into canvas bags. Now they were ready for market, the nearest one being Milwaukee.
The pickers came from nearby vicinities for hop picking season. They didn't earn too much money, but room
and board was furnished. In 1867 the hop house was built. It was part of the house the Geymann family lived in.
The hop business flourished for a few years but after that the farmers settled down to general farming.
One night fire broke out in their little log cabin and it was burned to the ground. The only thing saved was the
closes on their backs. Grandpa had a German watch which he treasured very much. At the time of the fire he
grabbed for his watch and got ahold of his pipe instead. Later the watch was found in the ashes. It was in
perfect condition, and we still have it. Now the family had to have a place to live so they moved into the hop
house. With the size of the family they had to build on, so the hop house became a nice home. Grandpa had a
big vineyard and he made a lot of wine. Grandma had a special recipe and she made a Caraway seed cheese
which was delicious.
Grandpa died in 1904. His son, Henry, Jr., had with the farm until he got killed with the binder on the Gust
Nohr farm in 1894. Grandma went to live with married son, Frank, and William came home to manage the
farm. He bached it for awhile and then married Emilie Neumann in 1896. His romance started with "hop
picking". Also the two of them were attendants at their sisters and brothers wedding and that's how they became
better acquainted. Five children were born to Emilie and William, Henry was born in 1897 and died in infancy.
Helen was born May 5th, 1900, Corwin was born June 13, 1904 and Julia was born May 11, 1907. Julia's twin
sister died at birth.
William Geymann had rented the farm until July 6th, 1923, when he purchased it from his mother, her home
with a son, Frank, then a daughter Barbara in Portage and finally with William on the home place. There she
remained until her death Feb. 16th, 1932, age 94. She was still knitting in her later years, until a second stroke
slowed her capabilities. Her eye sight was good. She never wore glasses. Her husband, who had died 28 years
earlier, died of pneumonia. She was buried in the family lot in the Methodist Cemetery next to her husband and
some of her children.
When Corwin, Williams' son and wife Hazel took over the farm there were many changes made. They were
some of the first farmers that used the method of contour farming. The Geymann's had no children, so when
their own health began to fail, and there was no child to take over the farm, it was put up for sale. They actually
only farmed it ten years after acquiring if from his father. The farm was sold to Don Koepp in 1954. The old
house was torn down and the Koepps replaced it with new modern ranch style home. The Geymanns bought a
home in Portage at 1121 W. Pleasant St. They had only lived in their new home six years when Hazel died of
the dreaded disease of Cancer. She was only 52 years old. Corwin has been disabled many years with an
arthritic condition but is still able to remain in his own home. He has vivid memories of the old days and is
surrounded by many mementos and souvenirs of days gone by.
