THE PETERSEN MONUMENT

The Petersens’ memorial - with their names misspelled "Peterson" - consist of two books that may have been designed to hold cremation remains. Closed books, such as these, signified the finality of death, but books could also represent the books of life. Anton Petersen and his wife Eline Frandsen lived in Racine for nearly fifty years. Both were born in Denmark and came here as children. Anton was a patternmaker at the Case Company for many years before he formed his own company - Western Pattern and Manufacturing. In the mid-1920's he moved it to Los Angeles, where both he and Eline died and are buried. The books, therefore, are only memorials.
