JOHN LLOYD (1824 - 1908)

John Lloyd was a bricklayer. He and his wife, Jane Lloyd ( c.1821-1868), probably came to Racine in the mid-1860's. Their daughter, Jennie (1857-1936), married Joseph G. Tucker (1851-1937) who was a teamster. The Tuckers lived at 1024 Franklin Street, and John lived at 1026 in the same house. In Mound Cemetery, the monument over their graves is emblazoned with a symbol of clasped hands - undoubtedly indicating a close family relationship, as well as the eternal union of a husband and wife. John apparently never remarried and after forty years lay down next to Jane. Joseph died only a year after Jennie. Clasped hands also represented God’s welcome to heaven - and possibly the welcome of their wives.
