HOUSTON/RUUD-Lanaii Kline January 15, 1998

I am trying to track my maternal grandmother's family history.  Her name was Leola Jeanette HOUSTON.  She was born in Martell, WI on November 12, 1902 to Ingebard RUUD and Nels P. HOUSTON.  Ingebard was also known as Belle.  She was born in Norway.  Nels was born on September 19, 1865 in Wisconsin.  I don't know where.  They married in Martell on July 4, 1888, I believe.  I believe that there were 3 girls and a boy born to the HOUSTONs.  The family moved to Minnesota when my grandmother and her siblings were young.  My grandmother died in 1930 in Minnesota.  I would appreciate any family history.

Looking for a long lost VOSSELLER/VOSLER descendant.  Sarah Vosseller was born in 1831 in NJ.  She went to Luzern Co., PA in 1848 with her parents and siblings.  Sarah was the daughter of George F. and Susannah (MOORE) VOSSELLER.  My problem is I am NOT positive who Sarah married-but there is a good indication she married, in PA, a ? KENDRICK.  Sarah was in Durand, Pierce Co., WI in 1880 - her father visited her there.  She may have been there by 1870.  One known daughter, Emma J. b. ca. 1862, probably in PA.  I realize this is a long shot-but who knows it might pay off.

WILSON/JACOBS - Alice Wilson - June 24, 1998

Looking for information concerning my wayward gggrandfather.  After 1870 Welcome Curtis WILSON left VT and came to WI to produce "fine American opium".  While his wife of 50 years was referring to herself as a widow, he had taken up with a Mary JACOBS who has been described as Irish or German.  A child was born to Mary JACOBS in 1875 who eventually acquired the name of Welcome Curtis WILSON, Jr. (by means of delayed birth certificate).  Mary and Welcome, Sr. both died in 1887.  Welcome was about 78 and Mary was about 51.  Would appreciate ANY information on Welcome who goes by W.C., Welcum, Welcom or Curtis. He worked as a cobbler, innkeeper, mechanic, tavern-keeper, carpenter and farmer.  In WI, he may have even posed as a Professor.  Would love to correspond with any of his descendants.

KUKUSKA/PAULUS - Jill Johnson - 4 Jul 1998

Looking to connect with others researching the Cherma settlement.  My Polish family settled here in the early 1900's.  Family name was KUKUSKA (real spelling is KUKUCZKA).  The family came from Rajcza, Poland. Andrew KUKUSKA and his wife, Jadviga PAULUS settled here with their many children:  Joseph, Thomas, John, Virginia (Regina) and Victoria were born in Poland.  Their other children were born in America and included Annie, Marie, Stanley, Rose and Francis.

WILLIAMSON/SMITH/HUNTINGTON/FILKINS- Dennis Harris - 19 Jul 1998

I am a descendants of Henry Clay WILLIAMSON and Carrie Maria SMITH who had a farm near Prescott until the late 1920's or early 30's, and I am interested in knowing more about the location of the farm as well as when the WILLIAMSON family moved into the area.  Henry Clay was the son of William R. WILLIAMSON and Rachel Hicks WILLETS.  I have considerable ancestry for Rachel, but none for William who, according to information on the back of old photos had w brothers, Benjamin F and Thomas, and according to old letters was supposedly born in WI.

William and Rachel had 6 children:  Edwin or Edward Willits (m. Grace Adelia WILSON), Esther (m. Cassius J. MCCOY of Madison), Sara Elizabeth (d. at age 20) Henry Clay, Richard (m. Frances F. WILCOX) and Ida (m. George F. PHILLIPS).

Henry Clay and Carrie Maria had 4 children:  Maude b. February 11, 1893 (m. a FILKINS from River Falls, then Louis Russell); Elizabeth b. November 21, 1894, died 1977 in Juneau, AK (my maternal grandmother) m. Homer G. NORDLING in 1923 in Prescott; David Rodney b. December 2, 1896, d. 1970 in Boulder, CO; and Esther, b. March 8, 1901, d. 1987 in Juneau.

Henry Clay is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Juneau.  I believe that after his death Carrie Maria returned to River Falls to live with Maude.  Carrie Maria (b. November 25, 1869) was the daughter of Edgar Monroe SMITH and Elmira Lydia HUNTINGTON, but I have no information on where she was born or when she came to WI.  The only information I have on Edgar is a daguerrotype of him with a note inside the case that says:  "P.J. Mathewson, Artist. Springville, 1861".  He appears to be in his early 20's.

Carrie Maria had at least one sister, Maude, who married a Fred MARSHALL, according to the note on a photo of her by H.H. Gill of New Lisbon, WI.  It says she was Carrie's youngest sister, so I presume there were other SMITH siblings.

Most of the photo's I have of the WILLIAMSONS' are labelled "A.C. Isaacs, Madison, WI".  Was he an itinerant photographer with a studio in Madison, or would it have been necessary to travel to Madison for these photos.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide, I would be glad to assist anyone with Alaska lookups.

My ggg grandparents, Ransom & Maria BECHER COPLEY left Delaware Co., NY in 1855 and settled near River Falls, WI.  Their dau. & husband, Lydia & Samuel Brown, accompanied them and maybe some other children.  Family skeleton in closet states that Lydia & Sam's son, William Wallace, murdered his second wife, Lydia Traxler, and spent 20 years in prison.  He married Lydia about 1896.  I wish to confirm this rumor with newspaper articles or prison records.  Also wish to locate his grave--died March 1923.
