Advocate-Thurs. 23 May 1907: "FISH CREEK: The epidemic of measles, which carried off four lives, has been stamped out finally. There were something like forty cases at one time, the lower department of the school having been exposed to the disease, and there was nothing to do but to close down for the time being. Work has since been resumed, and no more trouble is likely to occur.Charles, the 17-year-old son of Bernhardt Becker, residing in the eastern part of Gibraltar, died quite suddenly on Sunday, May 13th. He had been ill with measles, and this malady having developed into what the attending physician pronounced pneumonia, he became delirious and dropped dead without scarcely any warning. To add to the miseries and trials of the family the poor mother was immediately afterword prostrated in the agonies of child birth, and as there is only one room to the habitation, and the household made up of eight members, it was impossible to even lay out the young man or remove his remains from the apartment of mourning and suffering until several hours afterward, this difficult task having been performed by Chas. Gustafson and another neighbor. It is indeed a most pathetic case, and one that appeals to the sympathies of all who may read this paragraph. How true and trite the axiom "one-half of the world does not know how the other half lives!". 2Source-OBITUARY-Door Co. Democrat-18 May 1907:"FISH CREEK-Charles Becker, eldest son of Bernard Becker, died Sunday night, death being caused by measles. The funeral was held at the house on Wednesday and interment made in the Blossomberg cemetery."  3Source: Death Record: (Vol. 7, #440)-Charley BECHER, Born 6 Sep 1890, Died 12 May 1907, Gibraltar (at home), Age: 16 years, 8 months, 6 days, Father: Bernard BECHER- born in Germany, Mother: Carrie BECHER-born in Germany, Cause of Death: Primary: Pneumonia following measles-Secondary: Heart failure (5 days), Buried in Blossomberg cemetery.-all sources contributed by Judy PHILLIPS whose stepmother's mother's sibling was Charles BECHER (14 Sep 2010).

LUNDBURG..Ruth's health commence to fail her a year ago and an effort was put forth to save her life.  She was taken to Chicago to a specialist, who gave no encouragement as to her being cured, but her mother, not thinking this could be possible, took her to Chicago a second time, but received no encouragement, and she was taken home to die.  All through Ruth's sickness did she long to live..Rev. Samuel GROENFELDT and Rev. STEINFORT's remarks were pertinent.  The ceremony was short, simple and impressive. The choir sang "Meet Me There", at the close, those being the last words Ruth spoke before leaving this earth.  A long cortege of sympathizing friends followed the remains to Blossomberg cemetery, where the interrment took place."
