Thurs. 26 Oct 2006- "Computers Don't Byte" Series 1 - at the Door County Library .

We had a great program that evening where the PGS helped members of the community use the Sturgeon Bay Door County Library's laptop computers to research their families.  PGS Member Ron FAUSER had his personal laptop there to show his family organized on computer software.  Nancy EMERY, DCLibrarian, gave a presentation on beginning computers.  The Door County Library has made it possible for library card holders to have the use of Heritage Quest free on their home computers and Ancestry.com is available for free at the Door County Library.  Access both through the Door County Library Website. After the presentations, we had an hour and a half of one-on-one with those in attendance.

23 Feb 2006 - Family History Open Forum

The Family History Open Forum was a great success!

For the first hour, PGS Members had displays of Family History topics such as:  Censuses-Sue HAVEL, Cemeteries-Sally TREICHEL, How to begin your Family History-Mary Ann HARDING , County Courthouses-Steve JOHNSON, the Family History Library in Salt Lake City and Family History Centers-Sue HOHNEKE, On-line Research-Mary GROTA, Family Reunions-Ron FAUSER, and Photography and Family History-Ginny HAEN.  The Northern Door Group had a display on Church Records as they are actively involved in working to get church records in the Northern Door area on-line for researchers. During that hour, attendees were encouraged to visit the displays around the room, ask questions and receive free hand-outs pertaining to the different subject matters.

The second hour consisted of an Open Forum where attendees could be seated while PGS Members fielded questions from the audience regarding Family History how-tos.

Over 80 people attended of which many were beginning their work on their family histories.
