PGS WEBSITE = GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH GUIDE OF DOOR COUNTY

sites.rootsweb.com/~wipgs/PGS

For over 20 years the PGS has been working on a “Door County Research Guide” which has never been published. We have researched and gathered information hoping for the day when we could make a “Genealogical Research Guide for Door County” available.

We have produced projects such as the “Door County Place Names Project”, 1910 Federal Door County Census Index and the Door County Pre-1907 Marriage Index, all created to help fulfill our aim to make Genealogical Research in Door County easier. However, it seemed as if our aim of a Research Guide was never to be fulfilled and as time passed some of our information became outdated.

With the creation of our PGS Website on Rootsweb, the day has arrived when our aim of a “Genealogical Research Guide of Door County” has been realized. The reason for having a PGS Website has been made clear by our years of information gathering. It is the media wherewith our long awaited Genealogical Research Guide for this area can be published. Not only can we point people in the right directions for sources, but we can be the source!

Our long years of learning how to create a website, losing our initial site and re-inventing our newest one have been very timely as computers and computer programs have continued to advance to the point where the only barrier facing us is our own short-sightedness. No longer do we need to wait till we have mastered WordPerfect or HTML. Information can be updated overnight!

We need to “push the envelope” to see what we can do with our PGS Website as our “Genealogical Research Guide of Door County”. We all need to contribute though to attain the high standard we would wish our PGS Website to reach.

What are the best things of the best websites we have used for our own research? How can we make our PGS Website be the best and help people the most? These are some of the things I hope we will be able to talk about this evening and incorporate into our PGS Website.

First, we need to understand what we have on our PGS Website so far.

Second, we need to know what is “in the works” already for our PGS Website.

Third, we need to plan for future development.
