Jack WELHAVEN, b. 1919 in Milwaukee, WI, died 25 Aug 2009 in Sturgeon Bay, Door Co., WI.  He married Myrle PALMER in 1945. 

Charter Member of the Peninsula Genealogical Society (PGS) which was organized in 1987, Jack and wife Myrle have been researching their family histories, gathering information and making it available for their families for many years.   Both have Norwegian roots and were heavily involved with Sons of Norway as well.  

His Obituary reads as follows:

Jack Welhaven, age 90, of Sturgeon Bay, surrounded by his loving family passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2009.

Jack is survived by his loving and witty wife of 64 years, Mryle Anne Palmer Welhaven; his beloved children, daughter, Joanne Welhaven Coleman (son-in-law Randy Coleman) and son, Greg Welhaven; his cherished grandchildren Amy Coleman and Kevin Michael Coleman (wife Jennifer); and his great grandson Gunnar Andrew Walker Coleman.

He is preceded in death by his father, Sven Welhaven and his mother Esther Larson Welhaven. He was an only child.

Jack enjoyed a full life, which included woodworking, sailing, skiing, and traveling the world with his wife. Jack was proud to be an American and showed it by enlisting in the US Army the day after Pearl Harbor. After 24 years of service to the United States Postal Service he retired in 1979. He was an active member of his community with the following affiliations: Free & Accepted 32nd degree Master Mason, Member of the Order of Eastern Star, Charter Member & Past President of Sons of Norway, Member of: VFW, NARFE, Charter Member of the Peninsula Genealogical Society, and Woodworking Guild.

There will be a viewing at Huehns Funeral Home on Thursday, August 27, 2009 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Star Services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, with a Masonic memorial service to follow at at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at Bay View Lutheran Church, 340 W. Maple Street on Friday, August 28, 2009 at 11:00 am with Rev. Jerry Groth and Rev. Tim Malek officiating. Burial with military honors by VFW Post #3088 will be held at Bayside Cemetery.
