The following GROTA Family History is a Descendancy that has been researched and contributed by Lee and Mary GROTA on 14 Jan 2011. Lee is the son of Door County Medical Doctor, Hubert David GROTA, who arrived in Door County with his wife Carrol in 1935. They first settled in Baileys Harbor but he soon accepted a position as assistant to Dr. Dan DORCHESTER at the Egeland hospital in Sturgeon Bay so they moved to that city in 1936. In a letter that H. D. GROTA, M.D. wrote after his retirement he said that during the course of his medical practice in Door County he delivered 250 babies a year for 20 years. He also said that when Pearl Harbor hit, he became terribly busy with the shipyards which kept him from being called up for active duty. He was on call day and night with the shipyard accidents and delivering babies. He retired in 1971 but went on to serve for ten more years as Medical Director at the Dorchester Nursing Home . Door County News article on Thursday, 8 Aug 1935, page 1: "Dr. H. D. Grota Begins Practice of Medicine at Baileys Harbor--Dr. H. D. GROTA, a graduate of the medical department of Marquette University, has located at Baileys Harbor for the practice of Medicine. The young doctor is quite well known in the northern part of the county, having spent some years at Sister Bay, where his mother lives, and encouragement has been given to begin practice at Baileys Harbor by business interests and friends there. He graduated from Marquette "U" in June, 1934, and, was an interne in the Milwaukee County hospital for the past year. The doctor and his wife came to Door county last week and they are already located in their new field. They will prove a valuable addition to the business and social life of the community.

GROTA, who has been practicing at Baileys Harbor during the past year, has accepted a position as assistant to Dr. Dan DORCHESTER at the Egeland hospital where he recently submitted to an operation for appendicitis.
