70th Anniversary Year Celebration

updated 14 May 2009

The Door County Historical Museum is celebrating their 70th Anniversary Year in 2009!  There will be special events happening all 2009 season!

On Saturday, 9 May 2009, the PGS participated in the Door County Historical Museum's 70th Anniversary Year Celebration Kickoff by having a table where patrons could ask questions regarding family history research.  PGS Members: Ginny HAEN (who also works at the Museum), Sue HAVEL, Sue HOHNEKE and Myrle WELHAVEN were in attendance.  Sue HOHNEKE had her laptop there which had a wireless connection to the Internet so we could show folks how the PGS Website could help them in their family history research.

Below:  Maggie WEIR, Head Curator, gave a wonderful program where she portrayed Hedwig PEIL (taken from "Loving Spice of Life" by Adeline EDMUNDS-a biography of her mother Hedwiig from the Town of Baileys Harbor) an Immigrant to Door County in the 1800's.

ABOVE:  Carol HOBSON visited the PGS Table at the Door County Historical Museum on 9 May 2009 while the Museum was having a 70th Anniversary Year Celebration Kick-off to find out more about the Soren TERMANSEN Family whose document she is holding. Visit the TERMANSEN FAMILY Page on this website!  Next to Carol is our PGS President: Sue HAVEL who was on hand to help folks find their families!

BELOW:  This little guy kept an eye on the PGS Table!  Can you find him in the picture above?

The PGS had great fun helping folks research their families that day!  It's a first-rate museum!  Many people visiting the museum for their special 70th Anniversary Year Celebration Kick-off signed an antique ledger and added the names of their earliest Door County Ancestors to the ever growing list.

Besides many pictures of Door County residents and places throughout the years, The Museum has staff that can help you find your ancestor as well using the many aids the PGS has created as well as the complete Obituary Indexes (which we are working on getting on our PGS Website) and histories written about the county.  If you have Door County items and don't know what to do with them, perhaps you can add your treasures to their ever growing inventory of Door County memorabilia.

In any case, when you visit Door County, we hope you will take the opportunity to visit the Door County Historical Museum, see what life was like in the "olden days", who may be a relative and sign that ledger too!
