Mary Beth Fay Mon Mar 24 15:02:58 1997 I'm searching for information on Fred Carl VENDER (Jun 1900 - May 1988) for the PRE-1935 period of his life. I know all about his life in Montana from 1935 to his death. On his Social Security application (1935) he claimed he was born in Green Bay, WI, to parents Herman VENDER and Minnie LANGE. No such birth certificate was found at the Brown County Courthouse or WI Vital Records. He was living near Hamburg, Marathon County, WI, at the end of WWI and during the early 1920s. He knew the FROMM brothers who had a fox ranch in that area and his brother (name unknown) died in the 1917 flu epidemic. His older sister (name unknown) was a school teacher and his uncle had a logging outfit/sawmill in Rhinelander during this time. VENDER is probably a variation on his real family name (which the other members of the family kept since Fred didn't start using it until 1934 when he was living in Thief River Falls?, Minnesota. He was married in WI and left a wife (name unknown) and possibly child(ren) behind in WI (which is why he changed his name). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Am also interested in the possible relationship to Ferdinand Witzke who settled in the Oshkosh area.
