The 694 names listed on the following pages are from the Military Records for Marathon County Civil War Veterans compiled  by Cutler Post #55 GAR c. 1884. These records are at the Marathon County Historical Society in Wausau, and the information was copied directly from the application for membership. This list is not meant to be complete or 100% correct! There is of course, other information on MOST of these sheets- birth places, dates, burial sites, etc.  Some of the sheets have nothing but a last name!

My thanks to Jerry Dalum for getting me interested in compiling the Civil War Veteran names, and my sister, Harriet Hildebrand for helping me copy names, and Mary Jane Hettinga, the archivest at the Historical Society Library.

I have made some corrections to the pages - they are from the 1895 and 1905 Census enumeration books.  I put any corrections in parentheses.

I have another page with all the additions  to the Civil War veterans listed in those two books, that were not in the GAR applications.  If you haven't found your ancestors name - try here.
