WHERE THEY ARE LUMBERING.

LANGLADE, Dec. 17. - Business is steadily improving on the Upper Wolf.  Several new crews cam up during the past week.  One week ago last Saturday Geo. Streeter and Geo. Gilkey, with men and teams, passed through Langlade bound for up river.  Gilkey is located on Sec. 20. Town 34, Range 13 Streeter on Sec. 30, same town and range, both banking their logs on Pickerel.  Choate, of Oshkosh, and P. Graten, of Shawano are in partnership on Sec. 28, Town 32, Range 14.  Their camp is situated on the military road about half way between Langlade and Nine Mile Creek.  Bergstresser brought up a small crew the first of the week, He will operate on Sec. 12, Town 33, Range 12.  Mr. Hollister, of Iowa, formerly a lumberman below Shawano, has purchased of Bray & Choate Sec. 24, Town 32, Range 13, and came up with his crew of men and teams last Friday.  They are on the west side of the river.  R. Wellington, of Winnconne, has a small crew under the management of P. Croarkin on Sec. 27, Town 32, Range 15.  They are boarding their men at C. H. Larzelere's, thing it cheaper than building shanties this winter.  W. E. Hanson on Sec. 24, and 30, Town 31, Range 14, is banking just below the Gardner Dam.  Paul Reynolds, of Oshkosh, is on Sec. 34, Town 31, Range 15, and is banking his logs on the Indian reserve below the Log Cabin.

THE PROSPECTIVE CUT.
The following is a rough estimate of the number of feet each consern [sic] will bank this winter, so far as I have been able to learn:

                               Feet
T. E. Crane .................. 2,000,000
George Streeter .............. 1,000,000
Jones & Wellington ........... 2,500,000
Choate & Graten ..............   500,000
George Jerry ................. 2,000,000
W. E. Hanson ................. 1,000,000
Kellogg & Rumery ............. 3,000,000
A. Wellington ................   500,000
George Gilkey ................ 1,000,000
Laabs & Bro. ................. 1,500,000
Berghstresser ................ 1,000,000
Hollister .................... 1,200,000
Fitzgerald ................... 2,000,000
H. Colweil ...................   500,000
Asa Hicks ....................   500,000
Paul Reynolds ................ 1,000,000

Making nearly 25,000,000 feet that will be banked this winter on this river or on the Upper Wolf.

NO SNOW YET

We have no sleighing, consequently there has been no hauling yet.  It is very late for snow in the country.  We generally have snow for sleighing about the first of November.  Two years ago Choate & Bray commenced hauling the first of December.  They are skidding, and a few who have short hauls are travoying [sic].  The roads are very bad.  All are still using wagons for drawing up their supplies.  We have very cold weather.
Mr. L. Choate and Mr. Edwards, of Oshkosh, who have been up cruising about three weeks, started for home to-day.  Mr. J. Crowell and son have been up prospecting for a chance to lumber this winter, with what success I did not learn.
