Thank you, Constance
Hello,
We saw headstones marked "Mother' and "Father" next to Martin W. Boyle, under the tree on the south
side of the cemetery at St. Scholastica church, Bristol,
midway along the access road. We think these headstones belong to John and Bridget Boyle, his
parents.
May 4, 1868 between Larry O'BRIEN and wife, Ellen, and Rt. Rev. John Martin HENNI, Bishop of
Milwaukee Diocese and his successor in office for the sum of $1.00.
Commencing 6 chains and thirty links west from the Northeast corner of section No. 31, town 1, Range
21, thence south 6 chains and 66 links. Thence west three chains thence north 6 chains and 66 links
thence east three chains to the place of beginning. Containing 2 acres of land.
---Courthouse -- warranty deed -- recorded May 8, 1868.
Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence O'BRIEN donated the above described plot of land for a church and cemetery to
St. Mary's Parish. By 1927 the parish had been closed and the church building was dismantled.
The congregation was absorbed by the Catholic church at Wilmot. St. Mary's Cemetery was abandoned
about that time. In 1961 the cemetery was reactivated.
In 1958 land was purchased across the road for a new rectory and church which would be called St.
Scholastica. On Oct. 8, 1961 the buildings were dedicated.
