Vilas Corp. Cornelius Walraven Stanley J. Wojnicz NOTES 1. Casimir William Rocknowski enlisted 17 April 1917 into the U.S.Navy. He served on the "New Jersey". He was discharged 19 November 1919 from the U.S.S.Henley as a Gunnersmate Torpedoman 2/c. In 1943 Casimir Rocknowski had his name shortened to Casimir William Rock. Casimir re-enlisted 12 October 1942 and served as a Chief Gunnersmate on the U.S. Burrows, destroyer escort. He was discharged 4 January 1945 from the U.S.Audibon. Casimir Rock (Rocknowski) is buried in Holy Trinity Cemetary, Rollingstone, MN CONTRIBUTOR: Shirley (Rock) Speltz 2. Fred Richards and the family were neighbors of ours in Salem, Wi and I know he is buried at the Salem Mound Cemetery. He died in I believe 1939. CONTRIBUTOR: Jim Manning 3. My great uncle was Peter Pondek. He died in 1948 at Charleston Memorial Hospital in West Virginia and is buried at Montgomery Memorial Park in London, West Virginia. CONTRIBUTOR: Jeff Pondek 4. Leslie Ireland served during World War 1, but did not see over seas duty. His name is carved into the entry way at Simmons Library as being a local WWI vet. CONTRIBUTOR: David Ireland 5. George Bernard Simons, born March 22, 1895 in Chicago, IL and died November 4, 1983. His brother Walter Lewis Simons, born Auust 12, 1893 and died May 24, 1971.
