FREDERICK FUELBERG, one of the successful and progressive merchants of Platteville, Grant county, is the proprietor of a well-stocked general store, and has built up a fine trade among the best people of the city by honest methods, prompt service and the handling of none but the highest grade of goods, which are offered at very reasonable figures.

Frederick FUELBERG was born in Hanover, Germany, in September, 1866, a son of Frederick and Wilhelmina (BRUNOTTE) FUELBERG, both also natives of Germany. Here they were married, and resided until 1890, when the father, wishing to try his fortune across the ocean, came to Platteville, living with his son until his death, which occurred in November, 1899. Having always been a miner by occupation in Germany, upon coming to the New World Mr. FUELBERG engaged in the same work, and was killed in an accident at the mines when blasting was being done. Our subject was the only child in the family, and his mother also survives. The father was always a consistent member of the Lutheran Church, in which he took an active part, and in politics he followed the teachings of the Republican party. An earnest, industrious, honest man, Mr. FUELBERG, gained many friends, and his untimely demise was deeply mourned by a large number of people to whom his many admirable traits of character were known.

Frederick FUELBERG received a very good education in his native land, where he followed the calling of a merchant. In 1883 he made the passage to America, coming direct to Platteville, where he accepted a position in one of the leading hardware establishments in the city. Later Mr. FUELBERG hired out on a farm for some five years, and in 1892 returned to Platteville to clerk for H. P. SCHRODER for three years. After that he opened his present establishment, which is conducted upon strict business principles. Owing to his thorough understanding of all the details of his undertaking, possessing in marked degree the faculty to cater to the public taste, and also special advantages in buying at an extremely low figure, enabling him to quote prices particularly pleasing to his customers, Mr. FUELBERG has built up a large and constantly increasing trade, and is numbered among the successful merchants of the city.

In 1892 Mr. FUELBERG was married, by Rev. E. O. GEISEL, to Miss Emma JOHNSON, of Platteville, a daughter of Frederick JOHNSON, one of the old pioneers of Grant county. Mr. and Mrs. FUELBERG have two interesting little ones, Mabel and Clarence, both of whom were born in Platteville. Like his father before him, Mr. FUELBERG is a Republican in his political views, and also a member of the Lutheran Church, as is his wife. Our subject is a trustee in the church, and also secretary of same, and both he and his wife take a very active part in all its work. Mr. and Mrs. FUELBERG are very pleasant, agreeable people, kind-hearted and sociable, and have made many friends, not only in the church, but throughout the city.
