PLATTEVILLE

N. W. BASS builder and proprietor of the Valley Mills and the Platteville Woolen Mills; is a native of Barron Co., Ky.; when he was an infant his parents removed to Indiana; he came from Rock Island Co., Ill., to Platteville in 1847, and that fall began preparations for building the mill on the Litte Platte, which was completed in 1848; it is best known as the old Bass Mill; he kept it in operation about fifteen years, and still owns it. The Platteville Woolen Mills were built in 1865. (See history of Platteville.)
