James Kinsella, 65, of Niagara, passed away Saturday, Feb. 24, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain.

He was born Dec. 3, 1941, in Iron Mountain, son of the late Robert and Darlene (Zeni) Kinsella.

Jim is a graduate of Niagara High School. Over the years, he worked at Niagara Paper Mill, sold cars for Doucette’s Garage and Kinsella Motors. Jim also managed Andreini’s Appliance and Furniture and later Appliance and Furniture Mart along with his brother, David. He retired in 2004. Jim enjoyed fishing, spending time with family and friends, and loved his dogs, cats, and horses.

He is survived by his wife, Lori; six sons, Paul (Sue) Kinsella, Denmark, Michael Kinsella, Madison, Dr. James (Elissa) Kinsella, New Berlin, Eric (Heather) Kinsella, Niagara, Aaron Welty, Niagara, Shane Coello, Niagara; three daughters, Ashley (Russel Kenny) Kinsella, Aurora, Tara (Charlie Curtis) Kinsella, Niagara, Cierra Coello, Niagara; three brothers, Richard (Carol) Kinsella, Niagara, Bruce (Sandy) Kinsella, Mankato, Minn., David (Patty) Kinsella, Niagara; two sisters, Patsy (Jim) Panula, Newberry, Mich., Kathy (Richard) Justus, Florence, father-in-law, David Chapman, Niagara; mother-in-law, Vera Stout, Powers, Mich; seven grandchildren, Collin, Logan, Taylor, Devin, Jalyn, Mason, Nathan; two sisters-in-law, Kris (Glen) Guetshcow, Manitowoc, Lynn (John) Denis, Manitowoc; brother-in-law, Dan (Kathy) Chapman, Fla.; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Besides his parents, Jim was preceded in death by a daughter, Wendy Kinsella and one brother, Robert Kinsella.

Visitation will be today (Wednesday, Feb. 28) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara. The Funeral Mass will follow at 1 p.m. at the church. Fr. Michael Betley will officiate. Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial will be established in Jim’s memory.

Donald F. Schuirmann, 75, of Homestead passed away Wednesday, Feb. 21 at Beverly Living Center, Florence.

He was born Jan. 13, 1932, in Homestead, son of the late Jacob and Cleora (Hillman) Schuirmann.

Primarily a lumberjack locally, he also worked as far west as Kansas. In addition, he did a stint as a competitor in rodeos for Wild West shows, enjoyed hunting game, observing wild animals, and the out-of-doors, here in the north woods.

Survivors include two sons, Steve (Sally) Schuirmann, Munising, Mich., Jake Schuirmann, Kansas; ten daughters Donna (Paco) Barribeau, Quinnesec, Mich., twins Vonnie Nessinger, Kingsford, and Vicki (Guy) Forstrom, Quinnesec, Denise (Ron) Michaud, Felch, Mich., Charlene (Ed) Swenski, Iron River, Mich., Sherry (Don) McBride, Kingsford, Mary (Gary) Stamper, Quinnesec, Krystal Schuirmann, Kingsford, Sandy Schuirmann, Lower Mich.; five step-children; 28 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Ralph (Francis) Schuirmann, Homestead, Richard (Carol) Schuirmann, Homestead, Ed (Karen) Schuirmann, Kenosha, two sisters, Marge (Larry) Carr, Stevenson, Mich., Barbara (Karl) Stayton, Camp Douglas, many nephews, nieces; special friends, Harold (Alice ) Westman, Richard Verbick, Beverly Bryant, Dennis Barnard, and members of camp Cedar Inn, Homestead.

Visitation was Saturday, Feb. 24 from 1p.m. to 2 p.m., at Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence. The funeral service was at the funeral home. Rev. Doug Johnson officiated.

Gilbert A. Pruss, age 73, of Fence passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain.

He was born July 18, 1933, in Chicago, Ill., son of the late Anthony and Laura Pruss.

Gilbert grew up in Chicago and graduated from Crane Technical High School. He went on to serve in the US Navy and upon being honorably discharged from the service, returned to Chicago. Gilbert attended the University of Illinois where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree. He worked in the Chicago area for many years in the electrical field before moving to Fence in 1992. Gilbert owned and operated GM Manufacturing Company in Goodman, Wis., which he operated until the present time. He enjoyed the many animals at his home and the fish that he planted in his pond. He truly loved the outdoors.

He is survived by one son, Armondo Fabela, Fence, and numerous friends.

Besides his parents, Gilbert was preceded in death by a sister Valerie.

Clarice R. Yunowich, 83, of Neenah, Wis., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the VNA Assisted Living Facility, Neenah.

Clarice was born on Feb. 2, 1924, in Niagara and was a life long resident until she moved to Neenah to be closer to her daughter, Nancy in 2001. Part of her heart always remained in Niagara with her extended family and life long friends.

She was a receptionist at the Niagara Paper Mill and was proud of her many years of service and the friendships she formed. Clarice loved playing cards and golfing with family and friends and enjoyed life to the fullest. Her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews were a treasured part of her life. Every person she touched was affected by her positive and happy attitudes toward life. She recently told her daughter, “Live your dreams, I sincerely mean it.”

Clarice is survived by her daughter, Nancy (Ron) Marks, Oshkosh, daughter-in-law, Elyce (James) Yunowich, Los Angeles, Calif.; four grandchildren, Jill (Brian) Dujardin, Heather Marks, Jeanne (Paul) Jerks, James Yunowich; four great-grandchildren, Lindsay, Evan, McKenzie, Malcolm; brother, Ray (Lois) Steeno; many nieces and nephews.

Clarice was preceded in death by her beloved husband Eugene W. Yunowich, her dear son James R. Yunowich, sister and best friend Florence Kenville, and brother Alvin Steeno.

Visitation was Saturday, Feb. 24 at Jacobs Funeral Home, Niagara Chapel. Funeral service is at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Pat Nolet will officiate. Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery.

Clarice’s family wishes to thank the many care givers at the VNA Assisted Living in Neenah, for five years of loving care and attention. Clarice always said she was treated like a “queen”.

Helen F. Leonard, 96, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2007, at Maryhill Manor, Niagara, Wis.

She was born May 25, 1910, in Iron Mountain, Mich. She was the daughter of the late Vincenzo and Laurina (Corsi) Spera. She married Clayton J. Leonard June 7, 1936. He preceded her in death in 1995.

Helen attended Business College in Iron Mountain. After her children were born, she decided to become a stay-at-home Mom. Helen spent every summer at their cottage at Hamilton Lakes. She was a wonderful Italian cook, but would not part with any of her recipes.

She is survived by three sons, James C. (Patricia) Leonard, Madison, Wis., Gary (Joanne) Leonard, Wausau, Wis., Dennis (Marian) Leonard, Pagosa Springs, Colo. ; nine grandchildren, Lori (Scott) DeMario, Lisa (Roger) Yunker, Christine (Michael) Cleary, Karen Leonard, Stephanie (Dustin) Hackbart, Debbie (Brian) Knapp, Pam Leonard, Tracey (Darren) Moran, Kelly (Daniel) O'Neil; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Ali, and Lexi DeMario, Alisha, Stephanie, Michael, Chrissy, and Tyler Cleary, Barrett, Campbell and Emerson Hackbart, Derek and Tyler Knapp, Rachel and Jackson Moran, and Grace O'Neil; one brother, Alfred (Dorothy) Spera; two sisters, Mary (Archie) Larson, Flora (Charles) DeRidder; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Sunday, Feb. 25 Jacobs Funeral Home, Niagara Chapel. Prayers were offered Monday, Feb. 26 at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass was at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara. Father Michael Betley officiated. Burial will be in Niagara Cemetery.

Paul Westin, 76, of Augusta, a loving husband, father and friend and a veteran of two wars, died February 18, 2007 at Doctors Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Mickie, in late 2005 and by his two brothers, John and Fred. Lt. Col.

Westin is survived by son, Robert Westin and daughter-in-law Melanie of Gray, Ga., son, David Westin of Augusta, Robert and Melanie's children, Kelly Griffin and Daniel Green, both of Macon and their grandchild, Gloria Griffin; brothers-in-law: David Abdella of Holiday, FL and Michael Puetz of Wisconsin and sister-in-law: Nancy Schmidt of Wisconsin. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. (today) Wednesday at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 3551 Wheeler Road, with the Rev. Robert Hunt officiating. The family will receive friends after the service at the home, 411 Shallowford Circle, Augusta.

The inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery will be private. Lt. Col. Westin was born March 28, 1930, in the small Wisconsin town of Florence. He lived there until he attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture. He later earned a masters degree in criminology at Michigan State University.

After participating in the ROTC program at the University of Wisconsin, he entered the Army as a Lieutenant. He retired 25 years later as a Lieutenant Colonel. He served his country in the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War; worked in the military police and the Army Corps of Engineers; and was a director of the Department of Army-wide Training Support. He had tours of duty at Fort Benning, Ga.; Fort Bragg, N.C.; Paris, France; White Sands, N.M.; Fort McPherson in Atlanta; Fort Gordon (twice) in Augusta; and Fort McClellan in Alabama. Lt. Col. Westin retired from the Army in 1977 and returned to Augusta.

He worked as an insurance agent and later enjoyed early morning hours working as the area distributor of USA Today, Baseball America, The Wall Street Journal and Barons. He was an avid golfer who held memberships over the years at Armed Forces Golf Course, Green Meadows Country Club, Gordon Lakes Golf Course and West Lake Country Club. Lt. Col. Westin will be remembered for his easy-going demeanor, kindness and the pride he took in his Swedish heritage. He loved the Green Bay Packers, University of Wisconsin athletics and the numerous dogs he and his wife spoiled, including dachshunds, greyhounds and whippets.

Lt. Col. Westin enjoyed reading The Augusta Chronicle, The Florence Mining News and the Army Times, and watching The O'Reilly Factor. Carrie A. Merrill, 36, of Channing, Mich., passed away Tuesday, Feb. 27 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born Feb. 17, 1971, in Manitowoc, daughter of Dwaine and Dianna (Schabel) Zahorik. She married Lyle Merrill Dec. 7, 1990, in Iron Mountain.

Carrie grew up in Aurora and graduated from Florence High School in 1989. She had worked for many different places in the area over the years, but most recently she has worked for the Restaurant in Channing, St. Rose Catholic Church, and Doctor Batti’s office. Carrie resided in Iron Mountain and Quinnesec before moving to Channing in 2002. She enjoyed many hobbies including, cooking, baking, gardening, flowers, sewing and the Rendezvous Club.

Besides her husband, Lyle, and her parents, Carrie is survived by her children, Seth and Kati, at home; one brother, Scott (Margo Wisniewski) Zahorik, Aurora; two sisters, Carlene Hedmark, Florence, Kristina (Tom) Williams, Florence; mother-in-law, Marcia Garverick, Lake City, Fla.; brother-in-law, Jay (Debbie) Merrill, Quinnesec, three nieces, Rebecca Hedmark, Florence, Beth Hedmark, Florence, Christina Merrill, Quinnesec; one nephew, Jacob Hedmark, Florence; many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Carrie was a breath of sunshine and her smile lit up a room, anyone that ever met her felt loved. Her family and friends meant the world to her. She was a loving and devoted mother and wife to Seth, Kati, and Lyle.

Visitation was Monday, March 5 at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. The funeral service followed at 1 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Rev. David Anderson officiated.

A memorial was established in Carrie’s memory.

Veron A. Conn, 81, of Florence passed away Thursday, March 1, at Dickinson County HealthCare System, Iron Mountain.

Vernon was born on April 20, 1925, in Trousdale, Okla., son of the late Harvey and Wilma (May) Conn. Vernon married Millicent Trudell on March 9, 1946, in Norman, Okla.

Vernon grew up in Oklahoma. He served our country in the U.S. Navy during WWII, in the Pacific Theater, from Aug. 1942, until he was honorably discharged in Feb. 1946. While in the service, Vernon earned four medals of honor. After being married, Vernon, along with his wife, Millicent, moved to Florence. He worked as a milk man on the Alpha-Stambaugh Route, Commonwealth Mine, The Odgers Company as an exploratory driller, and lab technician at Hannah Mining Company, Groveland Mine, for 22 years, retiring in 1981, after it closed. In 2002, Vernon received his high school diploma.

Vernon was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Florence, Knights of Columbus, Florence, V.F.W. Post No. 3635, Florence, Young at Heart Senior Club and LCSL No. 5 ship and No. 126.

Survivors include, his wife, Millicent; two sons, Rodney (Liz) Conn, Florence, Richard (Jaye) Conn, Sawyer Lake; two brothers, Donald Conn, Nobel, Okla., Richard Conn, Wichita, Kans., one sister, Lotella Davis, Norman, Okla.; four grandchildren, Trinity, Coral Ann, Michael, Christopher; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Vernon was preceded in death by one son, Randy; two brothers, Quinton and Wyman Conn; and one sister, Dorothy Trudell.

Visitation was Monday, March 5, at Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence. VFW/American Legion Post No. 3635 offered a veterans memorial service at the funeral home. Prayers were offered at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass followed at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Florence. Fr. Michael Betley officiated. Burial was in St. Mary Cemetery, Commonwealth.

Pastor Arthur William Coats, 77, of Pembine, died at home Friday, March 9. He was born Jan. 18, 1930 in Froid, Mont., the son of Arthur and Severine (Scott) Coats. He held a Masters Degree in Education. He married Virginia Morgan in Milwaukee, Ore. on June 5, 1952. He was a Pastor of the Gospel and Baptist Pastor for 50 years. He started and pastured churches in several western and mid-western states.

He is survived by, his wife, Virginia Coats of Pembine; his son, David Coats of Pembine; his daughter, Vicki Mansell of Teshio, Japan; his brother, David Coats of Salt Lake City, UT; three sisters, Vonda Dykstra of Holiday, Tenn., Eva Ahlson of Vancouver, Wash., Joan Kuhns of Longview, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial Service will be held Thursday, March 15 at 6:30 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church in Beecher. His son David will be officiating. In leiu of flowers the family asks that financial gifts be given to the student Scholarship fund at Northland Baptist Bible Colle, Duegnbar.

Paul Joseph Pontbriand, 87, of Florence, died peacefully Saturday, March 17 at his home.

He was born July 15, 1919, in Florence, son of the late James and Maude (St. Onge) Pontbriand. He was a lifelong resident of Florence, and he attended Florence School, graduating in 1937.

On June 26, 1948, he married Rita Witynski at St. Mary Catholic Church, Florence. They were blessed with 58 years of marriage, seven children, 20 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Paul loved working with his carpentry tools on both small and large projects. He built the home that he and Rita shared. His tool box traveled the country helping family and friends either build or remodel their homes. He always greeted you with a smile or a kind word. Paul loved to tease family and friends; waitresses were one of his favorite targets. Paul and Rita loved to travel, they had the opportunity to visit all 50 states. He was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church. Paul was a man of strong faith in God who spent his life in service of God, his family, and friends.

He first worked for Doyle Trucking and later went into the service. Paul was an U.S. Army Veteran, serving during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater from 1940-1945. Upon leaving the service, he worked for Inland Steel on the ore boats; he then worked for the Florence County Highway Commission. Paul was elected as the County Clerk of Court in Florence and also was a partner of Witynski & Sons Hardware. He retired from the hardware business in 1982.

Paul was always ready to lend a helping hand. He volunteered his time for many organizations including: The Florence Villa, Habitat for Humanity, St. Vincent DePaul, and the Florence Fire Department. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion, and very active in the Cursillo Movement.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Rita; three sons, Steve (Debbie) Pontbriand, Iron Mountain, Mich., Mike (Mary) Pontbriand, Norway, Tom (Wanda) Pontbriand, Rhinelander; four daughters, Sue (Bob) Schelble, Ft. Collins, Colo., Joann (Gary) Peterson, Peoria, Ill., Frances (David) Rochon, Iron Mountain, Mary (David) Carlson, Aurora; 19 grandchildren, Scott and Kathy Schelble, Mark, Gregg, and Kristi Peterson, Kory Pontbriand and Heidi (Todd) Brown, Missy, Dan, and Joe Pontbriand, Amanda (Brett) Aylesworth, Logan and Tyler Pontbriand, Nick and Joe Rochon, Rachel, Ethan, Jonah, and Hannah Carlson; four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Eli, and Stephen Brown, and Riley Jo Peterson.

Besides his parents, Paul was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, William and Gertrude Witynski, a brother Jim Pontbriand, and a granddaughter, Mandy Schelble.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 21 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence. Prayers will be offered at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Prayers will also be offered Thursday, March 22, 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, Florence. Fr. Michael Betley will officiate.

Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Commonwealth, Wis., in the spring.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Paul’s name.

Virginia (Dederich) Anderson, 91, died on Sunday, March 11 at the Sharpe Care Center in Oconto Falls.

Virginia Dederich, the daughter of Frank and Amanda (Briske) Dederich was born on Nov. 14, 1915 in Racine. She graduated from St. Catherine High School in Racine. On April 19, 1941, she was united in marriage to Walter Anderson in Racine. He preceded her in death. Mrs. Anderson worked for Hamilton Beach in Racine for many years.

Mrs. Anderson was a member of St. Richard of Chichester Catholic Church in Racine. She loved to crochet afghans. Virginia loved to visit her cottage up in Florence County, where she enjoyed watching the boats on the lake and in early years loved to fish. She also enjoyed reading a good book and keeping up on the news of her many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law; David and Mary (Rypel) Anderson of Abrams, two grandchildren; David Paul Anderson and his wife Michelle Norton Anderson, and Erik Christian Anderson and his wife Connie Novitski Anderson, two great grandchildren; James Alexander Bennett Anderson, and Molly May Anderson, two sisters; Delores Wozniecki of Racine, and Leona Culligan of Arizona, many nieces and nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 17 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Richard of Chichester Catholic Church in Racine. Entombment will take place at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Racine. Visitation will be held on Saturday one-hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or the National Kidney Foundation.

Ann Marie Lee, 86, of Iron Mountain, passed away Thursday, March 22, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital.

She was born Dec. 12, 1920, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late William and Ora (Slocum) Burgess. She attended Iron Mountain School, graduating in 1937.

Marie married Richard Lee on Feb. 20, 1942, in Hartford, Mich. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year. Marie was a homemaker and also taught knitting, sewing, and crocheting at the community schools under the direction of Bill Potter and the late Richard Brown. She was a member of the White Shrine, Eastern Star, Job's Daughters, where she held a triangle of honor, and she was also a past member of the Lady Elks. She enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of the same bridge club for 40 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Kingsford.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; three daughters, Sharon (Earl) Morris, Midland, Mich., Mary Jane (Jim) LaHaie, Iron Mountain, Susan (Michael) Fornetti, Iron Mountain; seven grandchildren, Mark Bray, Sissy Bray (Mike Gavin), Deborah (Doug) Peer, John Bray, Pamela Morris, Willa (Jeremy Bell) Fornetti-Bell, Tony (Jackie) Fornetti; three great-grandchildren, Chloe Marie Fornetti, Lucy Marie Fornetti, Marin Olivia Bell; and one brother, William (Karen) Burgess, Dunbar.

Daniel Allen Holmberg, 40, of Kingsford, died Monday, March 26 at his home.

He was born May 4, 1966, in Iron Mountain, son of Delore and Penny (Jones) Holmberg. Dan attended Florence High School, graduating in 1984. After graduation, Dan went on to serve in the US Army from 1984 to 1987, when he was honorably discharged.

Dan was employed at Dickinson Homes. He loved to go four-wheeling, play pool, and spend time with his family.

He is survived by his loving parents, Delore and Penny Holmberg, Homestead, two children, Haley and Kyle; a special daughter, Anita; two brothers, David (Sandy) Holmberg, Quinnesec, Darren (Pam) Holmberg, Homestead, one niece, Jennifer; two nephews, Christopher and Michael; his fiancé, Lisa Ahrendts and her children; a grandmother, Betty Domenget, Kingsford; aunts and uncles, Sharon (Michael) Safranek, Kathleen (Louis) DePas, Don Jones, and Terry (Jeannie) Holmberg; and many cousins.

Dan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Oliver and June Holmberg, Howard Jones, Wesley Domenget, and one cousin, Mark Safranek.

Visitation will be Wednesday, March 28 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., at Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Funeral services will be Wednesday, 3 p.m., at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.

A memorial will be established in Dan’s memory.

William (Bill) Brey

Born into the loving arms of his creator, Bill Brey entered into eternal life on March 31 at age 66. Bill was born on Dec. 12, 1940 in Florence. Services for Bill were held in Schaumberg, Ill. where Bill and his family resided. He was buried at St Michael the Archangel Cemetery. A Rosary was said at his visitation, in his memory, as he was a faithful man and often shared his faith by praying the Rosary with others in their homes. Bill was a proud member of the Ambassadors of Mary for over 25 years. He was also a holder of four patents. He graduated from Florence High School in 1959 and attended the University of North Dakota.

Bill was the beloved husband of Jackie (nee Hofmann); loving father of Michael (Debra), Thomas (Kim), Linda (Don) Witthoft, David (Kim), John, and Adam (Christie); dear brother of Josephine Liebergen, Mary Pintarelli, Janet (Ed) Kelley and Bernie Brey; cherished grandfather of 13 grandchildren; and admired uncle of many nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents John and Martha (nee Witynski) Brey; brothers Joseph, John, Samuel and Thomas; and sister Anne Gribble.

Sheila M. Dagostino, 78, of Commonwealth, passed away Sunday, April 8, at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain. She was born March 1, 1929, in Florence, daughter of the late Dr. Otto and Lucille (Budzak) Dumke. She graduated from Florence High School in 1947, and went on to work at Northwestern Mutual Insurance in Milwaukee.

Sheila married Ernest Dagostino Oct. 27, 1956, in Spread Eagle. She worked for the Volta Factory, Florence. She was also the Town of Commonwealth Clerk for many years and served as the sexton for Commonwealth Cemetery for over 45 years, working up to the time of her death. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church, Florence. During her membership at the church, she served on both the Boards as an Elder and Deacon.

She enjoyed reading, making maple syrup, and doing genealogy work for herself and for others. Sheila loved spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and family.

Survivors include her husband, Ernest; two sons, Mark (Judy) Dagostino, Matt (Marion) Dagostino, Commonwealth; one daughter, Debra (Peter) DeMuri, Commonwealth; five grandchildren, DeAnna (Troy) Kassens, Mukwonago, Jeffrey (Kit) DeMuri, Kingsford, Vincent, Gena, and Alex Dagostino; three great-grandchildren, Travis and Michael Kassens, Dominic DeMuri; many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Sheila was preceded in death by one sister, Edith Bomberg, and two brothers, Dale and Ralph “Doc” Dumke.

Visitation will be Wednesday, April 11 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence, and Thursday, April 12, 2007, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, Florence. The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Pastor Douglas Johnson will officiate. Burial will follow in Commonwealth Cemetery.

Claude C. "Pat" Patterson, 86, of Niagara, died Sat. April 14 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. He was born on June 7, 1920 in Mason City, Ill., the son of the late Christopher and Maude (Miller) Patterson.

Pat graduated from Niagara High School in 1938. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1941, serving in the European Theater as a cook during World War II. He was discharged in 1945. He then went back to work at the Niagara paper mill for forty-four years, retiring in 1985.

When Pat returned from the war he took flying lessons and earned his pilot's license. He flew out of the Quinnesec airport. Flying was his passion. He was also a dedicated bowler, serving as the secretary-treasurer for his league for twenty-nine years. In 1995 , Pat was inducted into the Tri-City Bowling Hall of Fame.

Pat married Evelyn Edict on Aug. 10, 1946 at the Union Protestant Church in Niagara.

Pat and Evie built their home and cut pulpwood together. The couple also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling together. They loved spending time with their family and took their daughters and grandchildren on many camping trips.

Pat was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He will be remembered as a great storyteller, sharing many stories, especially war stories with his family and friends. His favorite saying was “Nothing is ever simple”. He was also an avid bird watcher.

Pat is survived by his wife Evelyn, his daughter Cheri (Roger) Hamilton of Iron Mountain; his son-in-law Jerry (special friend Donna Mansfield) Kuester of Niagara; four sisters-in-law Doris Patterson of Pembine, Alice Welch of Phillips, Lillian (special friend Bill Polomis) Leonard of Niagara and Beth (Kenny) Goeden of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; one brother-in-law Ken Edict of Friendship, four grandchildren Angela (Nicholas) Gayan, Michael (Megan) Anderson, Dan (Heather) Kuester, and Steve (Sheila) Kuester, eight great grandchildren Kellen, Emma, Abigail, Liam, Preston, Gavin, Charles, and Brody; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Peggy Kuester and his brother Herbert Patterson.

A gathering of friends were Tuesday at Riverside United Methodist Church. Funeral services were at the church. Rev. Pat Nolet officiated.

Burial was in the Niagara Cemetery.

Mearle W. Rolkosky, 77, of Florence, passed away peacefully, Saturday, April 14 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain.

He was born Oct. 31, 1929, in Marinette, son of the late Isodor and Mabel (Behnke) Rolkosky. He lived in Green Bay for most of his childhood. He has resided on Lake Emily in Florence County for the past 20 years.

Mearle married Virginia Goulette in 1952, they enjoyed 55 years together. He served in the Marine Corp and was a member of the Operatory Engineers. Mearle enjoyed hunting, fishing, and coaching girls softball.

Beside his wife, Virginia, Mearle is survived by one daughter, Christine; two grandchildren, Tyler and Hanna Lindsay; one great-granddaughter, Morgen Miller; one brother, Kenneth (Harriet) Rolkosky; and one sister, Sylvia (William) Ackermann.

Visitation will be Saturday, April 21 from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., at Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home, Florence. A memorial service will be Saturday, 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Sister Marla Clercx will officiate.

Ruby A. Reed, 83, of Iron Mountain, formerly of Spread Eagle. We honor the life of Ruby, devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother who passed into the loving arms of the Lord on April 15 after a long and brave struggle with multiple illnesses.

She carried life to the fullest with her magnetic, fun loving personality and she touched countless lives with her happy heart and unconditional love. The family wishes to thank everyone at Freeman’s for their exceptional care. Ruby was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church in Kingsford.

She is survived by her family and many wonderful friends.

Visitation was Tuesday, April 17 at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron Mountain. Funeral services were Tuesday at the funeral home. Pastor Michael March officiated. Burial will be in Dickinson County Memorial Gardens in Iron Mountain.

Joshua Sheppard, 19, of Iron Mountain, formerly of Florence passed away Sunday, April 15 at Dickinson County Healthcare System, Iron Mountain.

He was born Feb. 1, 1988, in Iron Mountain, son of James Sheppard of Fort Worth, TX. and Jean Clark of Florence. He grew up in Florence and also attended school in Florence where he excelled in academics.

Joshua enjoyed reading, video games, four wheelers, dirt bikes, helping people, cooking, and poetry. He loved playing football and basketball. Most recently, he had an interest in joining the United States Air Force.

James W. Dykstra, 27, of Pembine passed away unexpectedly Sunday, April 22 at his home.

He was born January 8, 1980, in Green Bay, son of Warren and Barbara (Cook) Dykstra. Jim graduated from Pembine High School in 1998.

Jim married Ashley Ann Clontz on July 24, 2004. He enjoyed cars, motorcycles, and four wheelers. Most of all, Jim enjoyed spending time with his wife, daughter, parents, and brothers.

Besides his parents and wife, Ashley, Jim is survived by one daughter, Payton Elizabeth Dykstra (his pride and joy); two brothers, John (Lisa) Dykstra, Pembine, Ward (Marlo) Dykstra, Parkland, Fla.; two uncles, Pete (Carol) Dykstra, Fox Lake, Paul Cook, Esmund, N.D.; one brother-in-law, Keith Werner, Amberg; grandparents-in-law, Ted and Pearl Clontz, Pembine.

Jim was preceded in death by his grandparents, Willard and Margret Dykstra, John and Barbara Cook; one cousin, Kelly Dykstra; and mother-in-law, Sharon Werner.

Carrie M. Donaldson, 85, of Iron Mountain, Mich., passed away Thursday, April 19 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountain.

She was born Dec. 18, 1921, in Racine, daughter of the late Paul and Caroline (Bohnsack) Cichanofsky. She married Donald Donaldson on Dec. 18, 1937, in Illinois. They lived in Racine until 1972, when they moved to the Granite Bluff area.

Carrie was a member of the Church of Christ. She enjoyed church, bible study, cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren and family.

She is survived by three sons, Gene (Lorraine) Donaldson, Sagola, Mich., Donald (Debbie) Donaldson, Channing, Mich., Daniel (Gail) Donaldson, Florence; one daughter, Cookie (Norman) Rouse, Channing; one son-in-law, Roy Harshman, Channing; one daughter-in-law, Sally Donaldson, Iron Mountain; one brother Stanley (Delores) Cichanofsky, Racine; one sister, Gloria (Larry) Godlewski, Eau Claire; 25 grandchildren, Dawn, Kim, Jim, Paul, Kathy, Rich, Scott, Todd, Joan, Gene Jr., Craig, Julie, Janet, David, Carrie, Butch, Jeff, Crystal, Wendy, Nikki, Amanda, Jamie, Chantelle, Jeremy, Alan; 43 great-grandchildren; eight great great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Donald, she was preceded in death by one son, Jim Donaldson on Oct. 31, 2004; two daughters, Janet Harshman on Nov. 9, 2004, Sharon Olson on Nov. 11, 2006; two sisters, Millie Hockwalt, Wanda Berkholtz; two grandsons, Jody Rouse, Mark Arentz; and one great-granddaughter, Stephanie Calkins.

Visitation was Saturday, April 21 at Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron Mountain. The funeral service was at the funeral home. Rev. David Grant officiated. Burial will be in Channing Cemetery.

Patricia R. Wescher, 75, of Niagara, passed away Monday, April 23 at ManorCare Health Services, Kingsford.

She was born in Norway on May 27, 1931, daughter of the late Stephen and Emma (Brown) Canavera. She was a graduate of Niagara High School. Patricia married Gerald Wescher on June 10, 1950, in Niagara. They lived in Menominee, before moving back to Niagara in 1963.

Patricia was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara Women’s Club, and St. Anthony Council of Catholic Women. She was the secretary of Marinette County Snowmobile Club, treasurer and president of the Antique Car Club, taught CCD, and was a den mother for Cub Scouts. Patricia loved traveling the United States and Europe.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald; two sons, Stephen (Robin) Wescher, Scottsbluff, Nebr., Michael (Cheryl) Wescher, Caspian, Mich.; one daughter, Michelle (Rick) Downs, Amberg; one brother, Crescent Canavera, Niagara; two sisters, Aunnie (Al) Haydens, Roseville, Mich., Joyce Pistelka, Alaska; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and five step-grandchildren.

Besides her parents, Patricia was prededed in death by one brother and four sisters.

Visitation will be Friday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at St. Anthony Catholic Church, Niagara. The Funeral Mass will be Friday, 11 a.m. at the church. Fr. Larry Canavera will officiate.

Jean M. Niemi, 85, of Aurora, passed away Wednesday, April 18 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Iron Mountian.

She was born July 29, 1921, in Iron Mountain, daughter of the late Alfred and Emma (Archie) St. Louis. She married Roland R. Niemi Sr. in Bessemer, Mich. When the mines closed, they moved to Milwaukee until returning to Iron Mountain in 1980.

Jean had a great sense of humor and loved spending time with her family.

She is survived by one son, Roland (Sandra) Niemi, Marinesco, Mich.; four daughters, Gloria (Ray) Simmons, White Pine, Mich., Bonnie (Warren) Williams, Aurora, Carol (Gerda) Niemi, Milwaukee, Mary (Clyde) Niemi, Aurora; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Roland, Jean was preceded in death by three sisters; two grandchildren, “Baby” Ray Simmons Jr., Linda Favero; two great-grandchildren, Stephanie and Brianna Charles.

Martha Lou Smith

Martha Lou Smith, age 73, of Fence, Wisconsin, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, in Armstrong Creek.

She was born December 6, 1934, in Fence, daughter of the late Edward and Katherine (Moller) Thomas. In 1951 she married William Nichols. He preceded her in death in 1966. On October 28, 1978, in Kingsford, Mich., she married Kenneth Smith. He survives.

Martha attended school in Fence and lived most of her life there except for some time in Cudahy. In Cudahy she worked for the Public Schools. Martha was a waitress at the former Kusmitch Restaurant in Florence and did housekeeping in area homes and also cared for young children in her home. She was a volunteer and served meals to seniors at the Fence Town Hall. Being an avid cook, anyone visiting or near Martha was fed. She enjoyed her garden of vegetables and flowers, sewing, crocheting, berry picking, fishing, rebating, playing cards and the domino game "chicken feet".

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Smith of Fence; one daughter, Virginia (Gene) Keen of Wausau; six sons, Donald (Bonnie) Nichols of Merrill, Wayne (Dorothy) Nichols of Florence, Edward (Rose) Nichols of Peshtigo, Phillip Nichols of Fence, Glen Nichols of Spread Eagle and Michael (Carol) Nichols of Cudahy; two step-children, David (Candice) Smith of Aurora, Colo. and Virginia Smith of Milwaukee; three sisters, Laverne Moddie of Armstrong Creek, Doris Schuirmann of Iron Mountain, Mich. and Betty (Ben) Janczewski of Armstrong Creek; two brothers, Patrick (Joanne) Thomas of Armstrong Creek and Walter (Doris) Thomas of Norway, Mich. She is further survived by 21 grandchildren, Jesse, Joshua, Jill, Sherry, James, Gregory, Hope, David, Johnathan, Adam, Teresa, William, Steven, Katie, Tammi, Jeff, Luke, Becky, Beth, Jenny and Craig; 11 great-grandchildren, Briar, Hannah, Sidney, Jaron, Dani, Aaliyah, Trey, Dominic, Kylynn, Leah and Branden; three step-grandchildren, Daniel, Michael and Roseann; and one great step-grandchild, Zoey.

Besides her parents and husband, William Nichols, she was preceded in death by, three sisters, Marion Meress, Lorraine Neuens and Ruth Olive; one brother, William Thomas; one grandchild, Christopher Michael; and one great-grandchild, Analiyah.

Visitation was 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2008, at Jacobs-Lundholm Funeral Home in Florence and again Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Fence Bible Church in Fence. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. The Rev. Timothy Smith will officiate. Burial will be in the spring at Hillside Cemetery, the Fence.

Genevieve “Gee Gee” Strelow

Genevieve "Gee Gee" Strelow, age 80, of Loves Park, Illinois was born to eternal life Friday, March 7, 2008. Gee Gee was born to this life Aug. 28, 1927 in a log cabin to Peter and Mary (Janik) Czech in Armstrong Creek, Wisconsin, the youngest of six children.

She married Patrick Strelow on July 27, 1957 and resided in Chicago until their retirement to Wautoma. Pat preceded her in death on June 6, 1981. She is also preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Kathryn and Marie; and her brothers, Andy and Paul.

She is survived by her daughters, Noreen (Don) Jameson of Alexandria, Tenn. and Nancy (Andrew) Leppard of Wautoma; grandchildren, Laura, Jason, Aaron, Christy and Kelley; and great-granddaughter, Jacey. She is further survived by her sister, Helen Church of Niagara; very special niece, Lorraine Lesser of Machesney Park as well as numerous nieces, nephews, god-children and friends.

Richard Schaumann

Richard Schaumann, 88, long-time resident of Armstrong Creek, died Friday, August 3, 2007, at Dickinson Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain, Mich. Born August 29, 1918 in Goodman, the son of John and Augusta (Brozio) Schaumann, he lived in the Goodman / Armstrong Creek area all his life.

On January 3, 1939, he married the former Evelyn McLain in Fence. She preceded him in death on October 15, 1990. He retired as a logging supervisor from the Goodman Mill. His hobbies included fishing, hunting, trapping, woodworking and gardening.

He is survived by two sons, Robert (Carma) of Armstrong Creek, Lee (Arlean) of Fence; one daughter, Janis (Robert) Nelson of Fence; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Helen Sternhagen of Casa Grande, Ariz.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Stewart; his brother, Walter; and his grandson, Francis.

Visitation was held at Fence Bible Church Monday, August 6, 2007, from 9 to 11 a.m. The funeral service followed at 11 a.m. with Pastor Tim Smith officiating. Burial is in the Hillside Cemetery in Fence.

Cecilia M. Lisiecki

Cecilia M. Lisiecki, age 67 of Hamilton Grove Communities in New Carlisle, Ind., died Thursday, May 17, 2007 after a lengthy illness.

She was born in Chicago, Ill. November 30, 1939 to Bruno and Marie (Duch) Autowski, and had lived for 27 years in the La Porte County area, coming from Cicero, Ill.

Cecilia worked in the Packing Department for five years at Michigan City Baking Company in Michigan City, Ind. She attended St. Peter Catholic Church in La Porte, Ind. She was a member of the La Porte Polish Falcons, Nest #564.

On February 6, 1977 in Armstrong Creek, she married Robert W. Lisiecki who preceded her on July 8, 2003.

She is survived by her brother, James F. Autowski Jr. of Minn.; one nephew; two great nieces and one great nephew.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert W. Lisiecki and a brother, Raymond Autowski.

A funeral mass was held Monday, May 21 at 10 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church in Armstrong Creek with Rev. David Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the Pine Hill Cemetery in Armstrong Creek.

Clara L. Sundberg

Clara L. Sundberg, 89, of Crandon, died Saturday, September 1, 2007 at AGI Healthcare of Crandon. She was born August 26, 1918, in Long Lake, Wisconsin, the youngest of ten children of James and Lillie Belle Roberts.

Clara attended Long Lake Grade School and graduated from Florence High School in 1936. She married Clyde W. Sundberg on November 8, 1936, in Iron Mountain, Michigan. Their daughter, Sharon was born in 1937 and their son, Bill in 1940. Crocheting, needlepoint and sewing were activities she enjoyed doing most as homemaker to her loving family.

Clara was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church and the Methodist Women's Organization. She was a lifetime member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Halycon Chapter; and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 94.

Survivors include her son, Bill of Argonne; son-in-law, Roger Cronce of Crandon; granddaughter, Melisa (Daniel) Jungen of Menomonee Falls; two grandsons, Daniel (Colette) Cronce of Milwaukee and Steven (Allison) Cronce of Sussex; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Clara was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde; daughter, Sharon; her parents, and sisters and brothers.

Relatives and friends gathered with Bill on Tuesday, September 4, 2007, and the funeral was held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church with burial at Lakeside Cemetery in Crandon on that date. Weber-Hill Funeral Home in Crandon assisted Bill with the funeral arrangements.

Pallbearers included Roger Cronce, Steven Cronce, Gary Cyrus, Ryan Palubicki, Joel Pfeiffer and Jim Palmer.

Peter Glenn Church

Peter Glenn Church, 44, of Goodman, died Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. He was born November 17, 1962 in Iron Mountain, Mich., the son of Gordon and Helen (Czech) Church.

He married the former Jackie Milan in Armstrong Creek on December 26, 1988. Pete was employed for an underground utility company as a construction supervisor. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his parents, Gordon and Helen Church of Aurora; his wife, Jackie Church of Goodman; two sons, Peter Jr. and Dillon, at home; one daughter, Amanda at home; three brothers, Joe (dear friend Debbie) and Jon, both of Aurora, and Gerard (Linda) of Homestead; six sisters, Juanita (dear friend David Buress) of Lawrence, Kan., Kathryn (Raymond) Mianecki of Green Bay, Marilyn (William) Vassar of Aurora, Patricia (David) Menapace of Iron Mountain, Mich., Frances (Andrew) Herman, and Veronica Church, both of Niagara; aunts and uncles, Clifford Church of Aurora, William (Florence) Church of Fence, Marge DeClark of Kingsford, Mich.; father-in-law Joseph A. Milan of Armstrong Creek; brothers and sisters-in-law, Joseph Milan Jr., Sherrill (Ed) Phillion, Matt (Betsy) Milan, Dan (Jody) Milan, Me-chille (Gary) Klatt, Kathy (Cliff) Moberg, Bob (Jill) Milan, Mike (Amy) Milan, numerous nieces and nephews, numerous cousins and tons of special friends.

Visitation was held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2007 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Armstrong Creek, with the funeral mass following at noon. Father David Schmidt officiated. Burial was at 3:30 p.m. at the Aurora Homestead Cemetery in Aurora.

Louise Smith

Louise Smith, age 87, of Tipler died Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at Nu-Roc Community Healthcare in Blackwell. She was born September 14, 1919 in Iron River, Mich., the daughter of the late John and Viola (Wilke) Reinke.

She attended the Iron River schools. She married Raymond Smith on June 20, 1939, in Iron River, and the couple made their home in Tipler. They celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary. Raymond preceded her in death on December 25, 1982.

Louise enjoyed cooking, gardening, reading and playing cards. The most important thing to her was her family and friends. She was a member of the Maple Grove Baptist Church in Tipler and the Ladies Aide of Tipler.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by three sons, Blaine, Ronald, Rockford; three brothers, Harold Reinke, Tony Casagranda and Daniel Casagranda; sister, Helen Foucault, and great-granddaughter, Tonya Rae Gorr.

She is survived by sons, Riley (Madeline) Smith of Long Lake, Randy (Mary) Smith of North Pole, Alaska, Rayne (Pam) Smith of Pulaski; daughters, Roxanne (Pat) Brewer of Cavour, Rhonda (Tom) Gayhart of Westminster, Md., Ronetta (Gene) Clapsaddle of Tipler, Raeleen (Randy) Werth of Newald; brothers, Joe (Fran) Casagranda of Caspian, Mich., Pete (Colleen) Casagranda of Beloit; sisters, Rose Marie Ferguson of Vulcan, Mich., Ruth Pretto of Loretta, Mich., Chloe (Bill) Peterson of Chicago; sister-in-law, Eiko Casagranda of Crystal Falls; 22 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; special friends, Edna Howell and Josie Alsteen, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Sunday, January 28, 2007, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home, Iron River, Mich. Funeral service was Monday, January 29, 2007 at 11 a.m. at the Maple Grove Baptist Church in Tipler with Pastor Jason Heath officiating. Interment was at Martin Cemetery in Tipler. Pallbearers wee Jared Miller, Jeff Smith, Randy Smith, Matt Burton, Grant Wojta, and Duane Lombardini.

Ada “Lee” Brown

Ada “Lee” Brown, age 78, of Marion, Ind., died at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at home.

Lee was born in Florence to Henry and J. Leone Winat on August 15, 1928, and grew up in Rhinelander. She was a registered nurse, with a degree from St. Luke's Hospital School of Nursing in Racine, and she worked as a clinical instructor in surgical nursing and orthopedics at the Cook County Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, Ill. She married Dr. Donald D. Brown in 1952, and moved to Marion in 1955.

Lee was active in the community, serving on the Marion Library Board of Trustees for 16 years. She had served as President of the Hostess House, and was a Past President of the Gamma Tau Chapter of the Psi Iota Xi Sorority. She belonged to the Marion Newcomers Club, the Marion Advance Club, the Mississinewa Battlefield Society, and the Grant County Historical Society. She was a 50-year member of the Mississinewa Chapter No. 94 Order of the Eastern Star, a life member of the International Order of Job's Daughters, and also served on the associate council of International Order of Job's Daughters, Bethel No. 19, Marion. She had served as Honored Queen of Bethel No. 29, IOJD, Rhinelander.

Lee was a member of the Marion General Hospital Auxiliary and served on its Board of Directors. She particularly enjoyed serving as a volunteer in the emergency room at the hospital. As a summer resident in Woodruff, she volunteered at the Howard Young Hospital and Medical Center. She was the first Quality Assurance Coordinator at the Wesleyan Health Care Center in Marion, and later volunteered for their monthly library club. She was a member of the Marion Temple Congregational Church and was a member of their choir. In addition, she was a choir member of the Minocqua United Methodist Church during the summer months. Lee was an avid reader, loved to travel, swim, knit and paint. She enjoyed her second home in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin.

Survivors include husband, Dr. Donald D. Brown of Marion, Ind.; brother, Robert Winat of Tomahawk; daughters, Sandra Gellis (Mark) of Flushing, Mich., Paula Schulz (Neilsen) of Muncie, Ind., and Carole Terkula (Michael) of Goshen, Ky.; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother, George S. Winat.

Services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, December 9, 2006, at the Temple Congregational Church, 1006 N. Western Avenue, Marion, Ind., with the Reverend Marv Wiseman officiating. Entombment will be in Grant Memorial Park, Marion, Ind., following services.

Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, December 8, 2006 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Ind.

Jane J. Nelson

Jane J. Nelson, age 71, of Rhinelander, died Monday, August 7, 2006, at St. Mary's Hospital. She was born July 9, 1935, in Kenosha, the daughter of Omar and Grace (Jenson) Junker.

She graduated from Washington Park High School in Racine in 1952 and attended the St. Luke's School of Nursing. She was employed as an LPN doing home health care for 18 years. Jane was active in the Newbold Volunteer Fire Department as their secretary. She also belonged to Chapter 181 of the Order of the Eastern Star. Through her husband, “Doc” Gilbert, she was also involved with the Shriners Wausaken Indians of Wausau. In her spare time, she enjoyed doing crafts, crocheting, and knitting. She especially loved fishing and traveling with her “soul sister,” Marty Mangerson.

Jane is survived by her six children: David (JoMarie) Barnhill of Puyallup, Washington, Donald (Mary Lee) Barnhill of Rhinelander, Douglas (Sheryl) Barnhill of Rogers, Arkansas, Dale (Beth) Barnhill of Tomahawk, Donna (Bill Grinstead) Barnhill of Rhinelander, and Darrin Barnhill of California; her brother, James (Connie) Junker of Ashland; her nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter, Dana A. Barnhill, and husbands; William Barnhill, Howard Turpin, Eldon E. Gilbert, and James F. Nelson.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 12, 2006, at Immanuel Lutheran Church with pastor Norman Peterson at 10 a.m. with a visitation starting at 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Florence, Wisconsin. Memorials will be accepted by the family in her name. Hildebrand-Russ Funeral Home, 715-365-4343, is handling arrangements for the family.

Mary Jane Sullivan

Mary Jane Sullivan, age 83, of Long Lake, died Thursday, January 10, 2008 in Aurora, Colo. while visiting family. She was born March 29, 1924 in Long Lake, the daughter of the late Walter and Mary Etta (Callahan) Sullivan.

She graduated from Iron Mountain High School in 1942. She was employed by Federal Reserve Bank for over 25 years prior to retirement.

Mary was an active member of St. Norbert Catholic Church, where she served as church treasurer and participated in many church activities. She was an active volunteer in her community and served as town clerk of Popple River. She enjoyed the outdoors, country music and the Green Bay Packers, and centered her life around family and friends.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother, Edward; brothers, Francis, Charles and James; sister, Margaret Bey; and is survived by two sisters-in-law, Patricia J. Sullivan of Aurora, Colo. and Beverly I. Sullivan of Crandon; brother-in-law, Duane Bey of Argonne; numerous nieces, nephews and life-long friends.

Visitation was held Friday, January 18, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Jacobs Funeral Home in Iron River. A Liturgical Prayer Service was conducted at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral Service was held Saturday, January 19, 2008 at 11 a.m. at St. Norbert Catholic Church of Long Lake with Rev. John Cerkas offering the Mass of Christian Burial.

Honoring Mary as pallbearers were Daniel, Patrick, Kelly, Steve, Greg and Mike Sullivan, Francis and Ron Bey, Cal Peters and Dale Nichols. Interment was at Long Lake Cemetery in Long Lake.

AURORA, Wis. — Howard G. Anderson, 95, of Aurora, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Florence.

He was born on Nov. 19, 1912, in Baileys Harbor, Wis., the son of the late John and Agnes (Rodberg) Anderson. He graduated from Iron Mountain High School. Howard worked for the E.A. Samuel in Chicago as a machinist. After his retirement he moved back to Aurora. Howard liked playing guitar, trout fishing, tieing flies and bird hunting. He was especially fond of his granddaughters, Cathy and Chris, and enjoyed spending time with their families.

He married Ruth Sjoquist on Feb. 6, 1937, in Chicago, Ill. She preceded him in death in December 1994.

Howard is survived by one son, Earl (Donna) Anderson of Las Vegas; one daughter, Phyllis Uhrich of Grand Forks, N.D.; two granddaughters, Catherine (Tim) Fayas of Green Bay, Wis. and Chris Lanham of Aurora; four grandsons, Howard Anderson, Earl (Jessica) Anderson, Leonard (Gina) Anderson, and Wade (Jackie) Anderson, all of California; a special friend and companion, Rose Dishaw of Kingsford; eight great-grandchildren, Teresa, Jessica, Kayla, Rachael, Michael, Donna Kimberly, Broen, and Jade; and one great-grandson, Logan.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Leonard Anderson.

Visitation will be Thursday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Tondin-Ross & Freeman Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Rev. David Anderson will officiate.

Burial will be in the Homestead-Aurora Cemetery.
