Obituary of Clarence James Eckberg - July 2, 1998

Clarence James Eckberg, Green Bay, went to be with his God, on June 30. He was born to the late Eric and Mary (Morrison) Eckberg, on Jan. 17, 1926 in Oconto, Wis.  He attended St. Joseph’s grade school and Oconto High School.  In 1944 he enlisted in the Navy and spent 22 months aboard the ABA-150 in the Pacific theater. He married Betty (Liz) Le Mieux, of Green Bay, Wis., on Aug. 6, 1949 at St. Willebrord Church. He was employed by Garrett Studio, Schneider Ness Studio and Paper Converting Machine Co. as a photographer and enjoyed taking wedding candids for 40 years.

With his wife and five children, he enjoyed camping trips around Wisconsin.  He loved  to make home made pizza for family parties and get togethers with friends. As hobbies he enjoyed bee keeping and carpentry. He was a very active member of St. Willebrord Catholic Church, especially the RCIA program in recent years.  He was a volunteer for the Pastoral Care at St. Vincent Hospital.  He was also active in the Learning in Retirement through UW-Green Bay.

His wife Betty survives him as well as their children, Bob and Terri Eckberg, Green Bay, Steven Eckberg, Grandview; Julie Eckberg, Cathie Eckberg, Mike and Debi Eckberg all of Green Bay; also five grandchildren and two brothers, Eric Jr., Newald, Wis; and Kenneth and Janice Eckberg, Green Bay,  nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m.  Friday at St. Willebrord gathering space until the time of funeral. Parish Wake service 7:30 p.m. Thursday, with the VFW Ashwaubenon Post #10244, services at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Friday at the Church with the Rev Ken De Groot officiating. Burial in Oconto Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers of other expressions of sympathy, a memorial fund has been established.

The family would like to thank Unity Hospice, especially Pearl.
