PEEKSVILLE GIRL WINS COUNTY CONTEST

"GERTRUDE BUCHEGER WINS A TRIP TO THE STATE FAIR AT MILWAUKEE"

Pupils from the Peeksville School were particularly bright in making high points in the rural school contest held at Ashland Saturday to determine the winning contestant, who is to present Ashland County at the State Fair at Milwaukee this fall. At the State Fair nearly every County will be represented in a like contest.

The County contest, held at the Court House on Saturday was attended by ten contestants. All towns except Agenda, Butternut, LaPoint and Sanborn were represented.

Miss Bucheger, a 7th grade pupil from the Peeksville School, Peeksville, won first place with the following marks:

Spelling: 98
Arithmetic: 90
Penmanship: 90

Miss Juliana Schraufnagel, also a 7th grade pupil from Peeksville, tied for first place with Miss Bucheger, when the town contest was held.

The Arithmetic standing is based upon a rating of 40% for speed and 60% for accuracy since speed is given much emphasis at the State Fair contest in Milwaukee. Miss Bucheger, who was third in handing in her paper, finished the set of Arithmetic problems and examples in 40 minutes, which was very good time.

Little Miss Bucheger will be the guest of the Wisconsin State Fair Assoc. at Milwaukee next fall where she will compete with winners of other county contests for state honor. The expenses of each contestant, including Railway fare each way, free lodging and board and room for two days and also attendance at the fair is met by the State Fair Association.
