Elisha Wells b: Cir 1794 Connecticut?
Elisha Wells was apparently born Cir 1790 in Connecticut. This belief comes
from the fact that his obituary carried the notation "Connecticut papers will confer
a favor by copying the above." and that his son listed his father's state of birth as
Connecticut in the 1880 census.
Elisha Wells married 18 Dec 1819 in the Trinity Lutheren Church of Reading,
Pennsylvania Eleanor "Ellen" Silvis. He is shown as a merchant in the 1842 Philadelphia
city directory with place of business at 14 N. Front Street and residence at 6 Franklin Street.
Elisha Wells and Ellen Silvis had three sons and one daughter that are known:
- Franklin Wells b: Cir 1820 - no information other than he was an executor of his father's
Will
- Clark Henry Wells b: 22 Sep 1822; d: 28 Jan 1888. Was an admiral in the US Navy . He married
Mary S. Walsh 11 Sep 1851 in York, Pennsylvania and died 28 Jan 1888 in Washington, DC.
- John Wells b: Cir 1825. Died in Philadelphia but later moved to family vault
in Laurel Hill Cemetery 08 Feb 1886.
- Mary Jane Wells b: Cir 1828; d: 21 Feb 1894.
- Michael Henry Wells b: 25 Dec 1829; d: 05 Jul 1891 Oroville, Butte County, California.
He moved to California some time after his father's death where he married Dora Elvera Spencer on 18 Nov 1876.
They lived in Yankee Hill, Butte County, California.
