ABOUT THE KARYN PROJECT

Karyn Zielasko (aka "The SnoCo Obits Queen") has uploaded to the SnoCo Message Boards literally HUNDREDS of obituaries, often adding even more information about the individual and his/her family from her own extensive files. Other SnoCo researchers have generously contributed obits, personal recollections, etc., as well. The Surname Search Engine available for RootsWeb message boards is a bit cumbersome; the KARYN PROJECT is an attempt to make these obits more accessible to our SnoCo page visitors.

The individual obituaries and other data (as uploaded to the SnoCo Message Boards and the SnoCo Mailing List) were collected on SURNAME pages - e.g., all the BLACKMAN obits were grouped together (in no particular order). Then, the SURNAME pages were combined into ALPHA pages, and a SURNAME INDEX was created.

In addition, some folks have contributed information directly to me for this Project.

THE KARYN PROJECT ("PART ONE") originally consisted of a SURNAME INDEX PAGE and SURNAME DATA PAGES. Adding new obits and updating the index and data pages became just a bit time-consuming. PART TWO of the KARYN PROJECT is an on-going "addendum"; new uploads can be found there.

The SURNAME INDEX provides a link to the appropriate ALPHA PAGE, but not to the specific surname.

These KARYN PROJECT pages represent only a SMALL part of the work that Miss Karyn and other generous folks have done for YOU, the SnoCo researcher!

HOW TO USE THE KARYN PROJECT

THE KARYN PROJECT consists of the original SURNAME INDEX and associated DATA PAGES (PART ONE) and an addendum SURNAME INDEX and DATA PAGES (PART TWO). New obituaries will be added to PART TWO, and that SURNAME INDEX will be updated as needed. Eventually, the two SURNAME INDICES will be combined; for now, a researcher needs to check BOTH surname indices for his/her target surname.

Remember, be sure to search the ENTIRE Alpha-page for your target name; often there are several appearences of a given surname, and they may NOT be in sequence!

An old friend recently reminded me about an EASY way to find a specific word or name on a web page - once you are on a particular Alpha-page, Control-f will open a "search screen"; enter the surname you're looking for, and the search function will find it on the page for you! (It's a shame that WyeOak hasn't found any SnoCo ancestors... maybe some day he'll get lucky and discover that one of his NEWNAM cousins migrated from Maryland's Eastern Shore to, say, OSO or MACHIAS!)

When you find your "target individual" on these pages, and learn that he was a Civil War veteran, don't overlook the CIVIL WAR PROJECT site - there may be even more information on that project's pages!
