The Genealogy Room
Located at Longview Public
Library, Longview, Washington, The Genealogy Room
contains over 3,000 volumes of genealogical research
books. A joint project of Lower Columbia Genealogical
Society and Longview Public Library, the
collection contains both local county records and
resources for general genealogical research.
A guide to the Genealogical Book Collection is an exhaustive
listing, by subject, of all the books in our collection.
"The Guide" is located in the Genealogy Room and is
also available as an 82-page download here.

Lower Columbia Genealogical Society
Organized in 1963, the
society joined with the Longview Public Library in 1980
to create a genealogy book collection and provide
genealogical information and research help to area
residents. Society members have indexed and
abstracted many local records. Money raised from society
dues and projects purchases books for The Genealogy Room
collection at the Longview Public Library.
Resources to Help Researchers
Resources in The Genealogy
Room include excellent finding aids , state-wide indexes
and lists, how-to books, books explaining the various
records, books on adoption, census indexes, county
history bibliographies, immigration and passenger lists
and indexes, military record indexes, periodical indexes,
collected genealogies, and indexes and abstracts of local
county records.
The General Library Collection
Materials in the general
library collection useful to genealogists include
biographies, foreign language dictionaries, history books,
maps and atlases, military histories, The New York Times
Index, Obituary Index to Southwest Washington Newspapers,
travel guides, and the Washington State Vital Records
Death Index.
Research Help in Local Records
by Mail
Researchers living out of the
area may request searches of local historical records for
a small fee. A Lower Columbia Genealogical Society
volunteer will do research for a fee of $10.00 per hour,
with a one hour minimum charge, plus any copies and extra
postage. Address your letter to Queries Chair,
Lower Columbia Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 472,
Longview, WA 98632. Make checks to LCGS and include a
large self-addressed stamped envelope with your query.

Society volunteers provide genealogical research help in
the Genealogy Room at the Longview Public Library each
Wednesday afternoon from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
