   Mrs. W. A. SHARP has gone to Victoria to visit relatives.
   Judge KAUFFMAN is holding court in Republic this week.
   Miss Ruth HOFFMAN was a Sunday visitor in Yakima.
   T. B. WRIGHT of Roslyn was a visitor here on Wednesday.
   Miss AYER of Olympia has been visiting Mrs. J. C. HUBBELL.
   Geo. K. AIKIN, the Roslyn editor, was in the city on Saturday.
   E. M. BOLDING has gone to Los Angeles, where he may locate.
   Henry KLEINBERG has returned from a business visit in Seattle.
   George GAULT was looking after business in Yakima on Saturday.
   Reuben CRIMP was a business visitor in Spokane, returning Sunday.
   Miss Blanche HOFACKER has returned from Seattle where she spent a few days.
   W. F. MURDOCK and son Will have been Seattle visitors for a week past.
   J. D. OLDS of Yakima will shortly bring his family here and make Ellensburg his home.
   Mr. and Mrs. Arthur HUTCHINS have gone to Pendleton, where they will reside.
   Mrs. J. J. SUVER writes from Mexico City that her son Elmer is steadily improving.
   Mr. and Mrs. G. M. JENKINS have returned from their extended sojourn in southern California.
   Mrs. H. V. PERRY has gone to southern California, where she expects to remain for some time.
   Maurice COBB of Wapato has been visiting his father, A. W. COBB, of the Wilson Produce Co.
   E. H. TURNER of Cle Elum was in the city on Tuesday.  He contemplates making his home
here soon.
   Miss Elizabeth JOHNSON of Cle Elum, who has been visiting her aunt, Mrs. G. E. DICKSON, has
returned to her home.
   Stephen CADY left on Sunday for Spokane and Coeur d'Alene, in one of which places he expects
to locate.  His family will follow him later.
   W. E. WILSON and J. H. MORGAN of the Normal faculty have gone to Pullman to attend the
inauguration of president HOLLAND, the new head of the state college.
   Mr. and Mrs. Frank FITTERER have returned from an extensive sojourn in California and their
friends will be glad to hear that both come back greatly improved in health.
   The Elks celebrated the 8th birthday of their lodge here Tuesday afternoon.
   Judge W. W. BONNEY is now at the general hospital, where it is hoped he will regain
his strength.
   Donald SMITH had a valuable horse severely injured in a runaway on Monday.

VICTIM OF BAD RUNAWAY IS RECOVERING
   Mrs. A. H. STULFAUTH, who was injured in a runaway Monday morning is making excellent
progress toward recovery and has now passed the danger point.  The accident was due to a single-
tree falling while she was returning from the home of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. SAGER, in the country,
where she spent Sunday.  She was within one minute's ride of her home when the break occurred,
but the team switched down Third street and she and Daniel McKEEMAN, who was driving, were
thrown to the cement sidewalk with terrific force.  He escaped with a sprained ankle and some
minor bruises, but she struck on her head and received a very severe scalp wound, requiring
14 stitches.  Her left shoulder and side were also painfully bruised and one bone in the left
foot was broken.

BRIEF NEWS OF THE DAY
   Arhur LANE of Kittitas was buried from here on Tuesday.
   Jack KELLEHER is occupying his new offices in his enlarged garage.
   Mrs. M. H. YAGER who died at Moscow, Idaho, was buried here on Monday.
   It is said the section men on the railroads have had their wages advanced from $1.35 to
$1.75 a day.
   K. E. McDONALD, formerly a merchant in Thorp, is now selling automobiles in Tacoma, and has
already had his picture in the papers.
   J. P. FLYNN, who went east because of the illness of his father, did not get to his home at
Springfield, Ill, in time to see his parent alive.
   A large automobile bus has been bought for the run between Cle Elum and Roslyn.  It will be
quite late before the snow will permit it to be operated.  It carries 16 persons.
   Workmen have been cutting down crooked and imperfect trees in the courthouse yard to thin
out the bunch.  About 100 have been given the axe and the yard will show great improvement.
   Lloyd TOZER had a narrow escape from drowning a few days ago when he ventured into a swollen
creek.  He was caught by the flood and sucked under, but fortunately regained his feet and
reached the bank.
   Chas. DESSIEUX's home, adjoining that of Mrs. SLEMMONS, just outside the city limits was
badly damaged by fire on Tuesday.  Everything upstairs was lost but most of the furniture on
the ground floor was saved.
   
A SNOWSHOE HIKE OVER BLEWETT PASS
W. F. PATTERSON, the veteran miner of Blewett, was a visitor in the city a few days ago ... He
utilized the autolegging system, walking the entire distance, something like 50 miles.  He has
been at the Blewett mines for 24 years and says this winter's snowfall exceeds anything he has
seen in all these years.  His hike took him over the famous Blewett pass where he found snow
from 7 to 9 feet deep; thence he descended to Mountain Home, on this side of the summit, then
down through the Swauk, the snow holding out until he reached Horse Canyon, 18 miles north of
Ellensburg....

ADDITIONAL LOCALS
   C. M. BARTON had known for many years the man STEVENSON, who was killed on or from a train
near Kanasket a few days ago, having almost $1200 dollars on his person...
   Quincy SCOTT has quit operating the Arrow delivery service for the reason that he could not
secure patronage enough...  
   Austin MIRES talked to the children of the training school on Monday dealing with early days
in Kittitas valley.
   Charlie ANDERSON began work on the Vantage road near that point on Monday...
   William HAYES, a former resident of Ellensburg, who died in Tacoma was buried from the
Catholic church Friday afternoon.
   W. B. WISEMAN has been in Seattle for a few days.

CHARMING PARTY GIVEN BY KLEINBERGS
   One of the most delightful social events of the season was given by Mr. and Mrs. Henry
KLEINBERG, Friday evening, when they entertained in honor of the high school faculty... Forty-
eight guests were seated ... Between courses the guests were entertained with vaudeville stunts
consisting of songs by Mrs. R. A. WEAVER and Mrs. R. S. PALMER, and dancing by Miss Adaline AMES.
... Mrs. KLEINBERG was assisted by Mesdames WOLFF, RANDALL, and MOSER, and Misses Helen HALE,
Wanda WOLFF, and Lena KLEINBERG.

OTTO LEE IS ENGINEER
   The meeting of the council Monday evening ... was up to the council to select a successor
to F. M. CARTER as city engineer and superintendent of the water works.  The choice fell on
Otto LEE, who was Mr. CARTER's assistant for several years ...

BUILDING REPAIR BOOM NOW AT HAND
   It has been a long time since the saw and hammer have been playing their duets as they are
today in Ellensburg.  The sound has been coming from all directions...
   ...the room behind the Owl Drug store has been remodeled and moderized and is now occupied
by the Star Tailors.  The old Tucker (Jack LYONS) corner has been entirely transformed and is
today occupied by Ben GRINSPAN...  Across the street the OVERLAND Automobile company has opened
up in the large room that has never been occupied...  S. PEARSON is putting a new front in the
"Warwick" candy and soft drink emporium...  Yesterday the Peoples Market in the Vanderbilt
block, opposite the Capital office, was practically demolished while a few front is going in,
with the floor lowered to the 20th century idea ... Both the Colonial and Isis Theaters have
finished improvements on their fronts... Harry RICE has fitted up the east room of the Horseshoe
block on Third street for an enlarged bicycle repair shop... E. J. BAKER of Kittitas has leased
the west store in the same building... John BURNHAM has refitted and improved the room on Pearl
near Third street and has opened a candy and ice cream store and also serves lunches...Frank
PAYNE has remodeled the building on Main Street that he recently purchased and is gradually
moving his grocery store into his new and larger store... A. F. SCHULTZ is completing a big
basement under his store in order to extend his ice cream business... J. R. SMITH opened his
shoe shop in the room adjoining BURNHAM's place... V. E. MUNZ has opened a shoe shop in the
room recently vacated by Charles MANNERS... T. J. GAINER has moved his lunch counter from
Main Street to the room on Fourth street lately vacated by the Postal Telegraph company...
Harold KREIDEL has his auto supply establishment in running order in the room formerly used
by "The Burg"... Joe REIS is preparing to tear down the old "White Front" barn on Fifth and Main
streets and a new building will probably be erected on the site ...
