Special Interest: The Mississippi River flood that destroyed Kaskaskia in 1881 and caused the land to become Kaskaskia Island and the many residents
to move. There is a story of a curse that was placed on the town and I've been trying to find the first printed record of it. The curse has been attributed to both an Indian and a Jesuit priest. Specifically I am interested in the French-Canadian and Native Americans (Illinois (Illini) subtribes: Kaskaskia) that assimiliated in this area. Kaskaskia was the 1st capitol of Illinois and is extensively documented, though most of the original documents of the founding of the forts are in French (which I can translate).
