Greetings!

Many thanks to Helen Lowe, Jiri Janecek, Jo Herber, Martha & Mary Ann Soltesz, JoAnn Pasek, Mara Pitkethly, Sharon Glenn, Marilyn Beale, and Dick Volin for bringing snacks! We had a great brunch. And if I forgot someone please forgive me, it got busy so fast!

We had a mini lesson about the Bohemian Census of 1651. In English it is officially called "Census of Subject by Religious Denomination of 1651. I have almost the whole set of these books. Each region's book or last book has a map of the area and a good index to find your village. Duncan Gardener's article from CGSI's Volume 3 1997-1978 ROCENKA helps you use these books.

Katarzyna Dziwirek is now the Professor and Chair of the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures at the University of Washington. She has asked if we would like our Czech Slovak Genealogy Interest Group mentioned on their website Slavic Community Outreach page. So here it is! Take a peak at it!! http://depts.washington.edu/slavweb/outreach/community-outreach/

Our next meeting is our annual Thanksgiving Potluck on Nov. 10 from 1 PM to 4PM. Put it on your calendar!!! Our website calendar says 12:30 but 1 PM is now the official starting time to set up our goodies!!

A big welcome to Jiri Janecek who came to the USA in the 1960's from a town near Teplice. He received a forestry degree in Brno, then came to the states and then ended up in Washington State. Jiri is an avid member of the Puget Sound Mycological (Mushroom) Society. MARILYN BEALE shared a beautiful Bohemian cobolt blue liquor set that had a little decanter and six shot glasses. She is also reading Madeline Albright's Prague Winter, which she finds VERY INTERESTING. JOANN PASEK went to the Croatian Festival last weekend and picked up information forms from their genealogy table. ED SCHULTZ had his computer to find internet sites as we discussed things, plus he urged folks to help www.familysearch.org do transcriptions of records. This is a super way to give back for all the things others have helped you find when researching. Go to their website, then to INDEXING on the top line. Of course if you know Czech,Slovak,Hungarian, German or another language that is a bonus for them. SHARON GLENN has just returned from a river cruise in Europe and a visit to Prague.

HELEN LOWE has received her DNA Kit from Family Tree DNA. She has joined Facebook's "Swabber's Club" where they suggest you get a picture of the actual "swabbing," too. JO HERBER is using the 1940 Census for both her and her husbands' family history. MARA PITKETHLY shared that Cesky Stul meets twice a month. Email Jara Soldanova for more info. [email protected] [email protected]/ Sharon Glenn's trip to Prague brought back memories to MARY ANN SOLTESZ from her recent visit there. MARTHA SOLTESZ attended the Sno-Isle Genealogy meeting where Mary Kathryn Kozy gave an informative presentation on DNA Information and Genealogy. I might add that Mary first set up our Website for us!! As we discussed speaking the native language here, DICK VOLIN remembered that his relatives just want the younger generation to speak only English.

Hope to see you Nov.10th!!

Happy Researching,

Rosie
