The National Czech and Slovak Library & Museum grand opening was a great success!! Fifteen hundred people attended. There were SO MANY activities for all ages. If you travel that way, you must stop and see their new facility!!!! By the way, this new facility IS PAID FOR!! This is an example of conscientious and thorough planning!!!!!!!!!

Culturally, I shared my book, My Little Czech Glass Family, with the group. I will bring it again to the Sept.8 meeting. Will also bring a figurine or two. As we were discussing books, ED SCHULTZ shared, on the internet, http://ancestry.mycanvas.com/Products/Family-History-Books.aspx/ This is a real cool way to write your family history book for your family. Ed is making a copy for each of his siblings. THANK YOU ED FOR BRINGING YOUR COMPUTER AND KEEPING OUR RESEARCH SKILLS UP TO DATE!!!!

CAROL STEINHAUER shared the kadastral maps that her private researcher found for her Slovak ancestral village. Plus he did more research for her. It is a real challenge to get Slovak kadastral maps. Carol is getting information about Peter Balazs, her researcher, for us.

WE HAVE DECIDED TO STUDY KADASTRAL MAPS AT THE SEPT 8 MEETING. I actually went to an archive building in Prague and found mine. The colors depict different things. If you have one, bring it!!! Czech or Slovak!!!

MARY ANN SOLTESZ czeched out the Czech Grocery Market Co-op event at North Gate. The people all had their favorite things they ordered from the old country.

JAN ROEDIGER has been slowly working on her family tree since retiring. She and her husband will be going to Germany to visit his ancestral village.

HELEN LOWE has found out that that it was her relative Karol Kilka that Kimsey pulled up on his website at the last meeting. She wants to pursue that.

RICHARD VOLIN is still thinking about doing more family research.

MARTHA SOLTESZ is very interested in the Slovak Kadastral maps. She also goes to the genealogy classes at the Bothell Senior Center.

MARJORIE AND BOB VERNON attended, looking at all the books and information, especially about the Ancestry My Canvas information.

JOAN AND HARV KNISEK just returned from a trip to Prague and Harv's ancestral village. This was their second visit and worked out just as nicely , and even better, than the first. Part of this is that Harv could speak some Czech with his relatives. They stayed at Guesthouse LIda again and went to the Mucha Museum in Prague and thoroughly enjoyed it. Joan and Harv's quesion: What caused so many Bohemians to come to the USA in 1880? We can discuss this more at the next meeting, too.

NEXT MEETING IS SEPT. 8, 2012. SEE YOU THERE!!!

Happy Researching,

Rosie
