Czech/Slovak Interest Group Report for June 29, 2002

Greetings! We had another great meeting! Unfortunately Tom Zahn couldn't make it, but we certainly had much to do. We had four new attendees with us: Janis Machala who will be going to the CR this fall, Vicki Johnson who has been there, Mary Kozy who is doing her hubby's research, and Rose Gresser who has been to Morava and brought back a lovely kroj from Vlcnov! There were 17 of us in all.

Rose brought her kroj to the meeting, petticoat and all! How lovely it is! This motivated us to be cultural again next time. Mara and I will bring the kroj we have, I have articles about the kroj to share.

We also had cultural and trip photo albums to share! thanks to all who brought them. and many thanks to Eric, Juanita, Vicki, and Mara for bringing refreshments.

By the time we went around the table to share, the time was almost over! So we had a short session on travelling. What interesting experiences the travellers had! We decided that one should only take a taxi in emergencies, since the taxi drivers are a ripoff. Renting a car and public transportation were discussed. I have the names of places to stay, so do other members.

THEMES OF NEXT MEETING:

1) Kroj (folk costumes) and kroj article sharing!

2) OLD PICTURES: Bring any that you want the date identified and ones that are dated to share...or anything else about old pictures.

DATES OF NEXT MEETINGS: August 3, Sept. 21, and Nov. 16, 2002

I'm still collecting genealogical books to share. The next one I have coming is on Texas, where, incidentally, is the next big CGSI Conference in Houston in October of 2003. There will be a mini-conference in Cedar Rapids, Iowa October 11-12 of 2002. Look on the CGSI webpage http://www.cgsi.org for more info.
