June 17, 2006 Interest Group Mtg Report

Hello!!

It was back to business doing genealogy discussions. Thank you Bev Ryder for bringing snacks. Those cupcakes did not last long!

Gladys and Bob Shipek were there to help set up.

Allan & Julie Peschek's daughter and granddaughter came with them from Olympia. Allan had a notebook full of maps and original record copies from Mirek Koudelka and Tom Zahn to share. He and Julie just finished Silvie Opatrna's Czech Conversation class thru the Experimental College and really enjoyed it while learning more about the Czech language and people. Czech Silvie's website at : http://www.masteringczech.com/ Her resources page is excellent, too!!

I learned a new Czech word! Shipek means little rose. It is spelled with a hook over the S with no "h" in the CR.

Martha Soltesz educated us with the fact that there is Czech-Mex music. I'd like to hear that!!

Cheri Smith is trying to connect her Trynka line using the SOUPIS PODDANYCH books that were discussed in the June NASE RODINA. I have almost a full set.

Bev Ryder has joined two genealogy associations in PA and looks forward to going to a conference there plus researching in the county court houses.

Barb Callahin is using TMG ( The Master Genealogist) for her computer program and is quite pleased with it.

Welcome to Janet Roach who is researching Hrones and Schorek (Sourek) from Prague. Janet needs to know where the records are in Prague for her research. Also we welcome Diana Lipsa who is researching Pliska and Bilek and needs to find that ancestral village!!!

My big news is that I have been asked to be on the CGSI Board of Directors for the year 2007 to take over for a member who will be the new CGSI President! THERE IS TALK OF ANOTHER CONFERENCE IN THE CZECH AND SLOVAK REPUBLICS!

NEXT MEETINGS: (THAT ARE ALL BACK TOTHE REGULAR TIME 9:30 TO NOON)

JULY 15, AUG 26, OCT. 14 AND NOV. 11

Happy Researching!!!

Rosie
