Articles Relating to Czech-Slovak Research

Greetings!

I sent out an email stating that I couldn't send out a reminder close to the meeting. I returned Friday evening, May 7, from a 10 trip to Taos, NM for a family wedding! Thanks to Judith Bazant-Lum for picking up the key the day before! Judith's family is from the Prague area and ended up in Montana. Welcome to our group Judith! Judith told us that Montana has two Czech communities, Black Eagle and Belt.

Barb Callahan brought registration forms for the RootsSearch II Conference on June 18 and June 19. Email me and I will send you the registration packet! Our own Mary Kozy is putting on DON'T BE CLUELESS--USE CLOOZ!

Why did our ancestors leave their homelands? How did they get here? What did it cost? Do any of you have information on the cost of the trip? That was our main discussion. It was interesting that I had just read an article on the czechs that went to New Zealand! Their trip was quite interesting!

There is an intensive Czech class at the UW from June 21- August 20 with an option to visit the CR August 28- Sept. 19. Email me for more information. Are you interested in having an exchange student from the Czech Republic in your home next school year? Let me know if you are!

Slavic Fest at UW May 15 and 16!

Norb Ziegler found a list of 8 points for researching your ancestors.

Our group has done all but one, which is form a connection with people/relatives in the ancestral villages. We can work on that!

Florence Zarro is getting ready for her trip to the Slovak Republic with Helene Cincebeaux. Frank Kreiner needed direction for his next step in researching, which is getting info from the Prague Regional Archives.

NEXT MEETINGS! JUNE 26 AND AUGUST 7, 2004!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Next time Mary Stevenson will share the information she received from a private researcher in Moravia and Gladys Shipek will do a report on the the book, ROSA'S MIGHTY MOUSE. Besides telling about the underground wrok done by a Slovak girl in Munich to help the Jewish people, it has a good chapter on Slolvak life in the early part of the 1900's.
