Greetings,

I appreciated JoAnn Pescek's help before the meeting, Helen Lowe bringing coffee and ALL of you who brought treats. Yum, a good way to start our day. A thank you to ED SCHULTZ who did technical support and some look ups as Hana gave her program.

First we had our regular roundtable discussions. New member MARY STOUGHTON, from Anacortes, is researching the surnames Makovicka and Snitily from Horni Kounice and Rouchovany in Moravia. They settled in Bee, Nebraska. Mary wants to put "meat on the bones" when researching her ancestors way, way back.

JANIE REISWIG has started the ball rolling, getting some of her relatives interested in their family roots.

STEVE SOUCEK is in touch with a Soucek in Prague and enjoying the correspondence.Pan Soucek sent a page from the Berni Rule, which is a taxation record from the Czech lands in 1654., showing the Souceks in Bohemia at that time.

ROSE GRESSER started a big conversation about the KOLACHE BAKERIES or the KOLACHE FACTORIES that can be found in many states, ie Eugene Oregon!!.

It was very nice to see JARKA DOLEZAL and daughter Marketa again.

DARLENE LANG is going to the Czech Republic in June, so she was very interested in the program. Not everyone shared this time.

Twenty -three of us enjoyed HANA MATOUSKY's program. Once or twice a year she leads a tour to the Czech Republic. We learned interesting facts about Prague while seeing the beautiful pictures. Hana is from Breslav in Moravia, so she shared Moravian pictures. also. We saw castles, roadside chapels, folk festivals and many of the beautiful kroje (folk costumes). MANY THANKS, HANA!!!!!

It was a great meeting and program! I also enjoy the networking that goes on among the attendees. Heartwarming!!

NEXT MEETING IS JUNE 22 WHEN MARY KATHRYN KOZY SHARES HER DNA AND GENEALOGY PROGRAM!!!

SAVE THE DATE! The CCEC will host a special evening reception featuring honored guest Petr Gandalovic, Ambassador of the Czech Republic, on Friday, June 28, 2013. Watch your email and our website for details!

At the JULY 20 JOHNNY PALKA PRESENTS A PROGRAM ON HIS BOOK THAT COMBINES SLOVAK HISTORY WITH HIS FAMILY HISTORY.

August 29 - 31 is the Czechoslovak Society of Arts & Sciences Convention at the University of Washington!!!

WHAT A SUMMER!

Happy Researching,

Rosie
